D8EA NGK plugs
« on: July 14, 2019, 11:33:34 AM »
This spring I installed new coils (Genuine Honda)on my K2 750 since I noticed the wires were turning blue where they screwed into the caps. I installed new D8EA plugs at the same time. All was fine until last week; started cold on three cylinders, #1 was loudly popping out the exhaust, and would not clear out. Pulled the plug, and replaced with the old plug. Fired up perfectly. Rode it yesterday and today again; accelerating cleanly up to redline until taking off from a stop.... Losing another plug. I went back through the posts, Mark suggests X24ES-U Nippon Denso. Time to order them. Yes, valve clearance, points, timing and advance all on the money.  What the....

Was it the same cylinder that went out or a different one ? There is stuff on the internet to show the differences in the fake NGK plugs.  This is directly from NGK ---  http://www.ngk-sparkplugs.jp/english/techinfo/fake/index.html

I looked at the NGK fake plug site. My plugs are silver colored, not bronze at all. Gaskets are tight. ?

Probably genuine if you bought them at a brick and mortar store.  Cheap also at Advance Auto especially when you order from home and pick up and get the extra 20-25% off with a coupon code. I use my slush fund Paypal there.

I’ve written another thread on this topic. I buy plugs on line, assured by vendor they are NGK. They are an official distributor and sell nothing else. BUT, same problem. Plugs that fail almost instantly. Or worse, fire laying on the cam cover, but will not work under compression, in the chamber. I’ve had two or three on various bikes this year! Now, it’s the FIRST thing I change out when there is any issue!

Thanks Benelli SEI! Very seldom do we see plugs fail...I was an auto tech/mechanic for 25 years and can't remember this. The Denso plugs are ordered, and will be installed when they arrive. My bike will normally easily rev to redline and beyond (not that I make it a habit) , so it's surprising when it starts to stutter or misfire out of the blue under normal riding conditions. Good bye NGK.

Been having plug fouling problems lately, NGK D8EA. Bought from a very reputable dealer. They look genuine according to the fake NGK images online.
Today I installed 3 new plugs (where did I put #4...?) and went out for a few hours, started missing at higher revs/power fairly soon but cleared with some full throttle bursts. Kept getting worse. I made it home on 3, maybe 2 cylinders. Parked and left it (too hot to touch), I will look at the plugs tomorrow.
I have always had good experiences with NGK plugs but this is ridiculous. I have always had some fouling due to pretty rich idle mixture but had good plug chops at riding rpm and power settings. Will look for Denso plugs now and see how they do.

Maybe made in China plugs?
https://eqshow.en.made-in-china.com/product/eyDEBFkUXJcG/China-Ngk-Good-Quality-Motorbike-Spark-Plug-D8ea-2120.html

I have got the impression that part suppliers in China are hard to trust since they suddenly can change the parts quality by buying cheaper or let others not certified to produce for them. I'm rather sure there are a market for scrap parts from good suppliers that stopped batches due to quality issues. Others sell the crap...

Looking at my collection of plugs, most are silver but one is a bit coppery colored. That one also has the NGK logo a bit larger, and on the ring reads the same as the others but is missing a tiny logo that may be "JIS" in a circle. Fake?
