I felt so bad for the Tasmanian guy. I coulda stayed another hour or so - I would have met him.

Wish I could make this gathering, I have a couple of other road trips planned this year chasing family across the country. I shall read and live vicariously through you all.

Yeah if he had emailed even that morning I would have stayed. I thought we were all there another night and I had nowhere to be..

Man did I screw up not going with you, my other regret is I did not stay another night, because the guy from Tasmania showed up after we all left.
I left a note for Matt on the Gram on his shop page, but have not heard back..

Matt is notorious for not answering posts.  I just texted him and he actually responded!!  That should hopefully get him over to this page.  I think Fun Jimmy is going to join us in NC for the reunion.

FOUND IT , Gearhead Bikes Pacifica... opens at 11am, knew it had to be him.
He even had a pic of Mooshie at the Norton dudes place from the Dolores ride.

Hey, a guy needs his beauty rest.

Not gonna commit just yet but I've been wanting to get back to NC for a while now. Spent a few years living there in the mid-nineties but that was on the coast. Sounds like fun!

Coincidentally, although I've barely been on a motorcycle since the Dolores ride, I just registered a CB550 today and am riding it home tonight. About 15 minutes after I put the sticker on, I get a text from The Wind Goddess. Thanks for the heads up, Mooshie.

The date is looking good for me so far, we don't have any car races scheduled around labor day.  I'll need to assess my bike choice. I'm lucky to have one, the sandcast is out, unless I trucked it there. The 70 is looking good once I fixed the #1 carb issue and I have bags I could install, but the 78 wing has to be top of the list. It's got a fairing, lowers, a rack, adjustable backrest and bags. It's already been to Sturgis so I know it'll do 15 hour days.

Dave,

I got your voicemail the other day and I will give you a call this week to answer whatever questions you have. I definitely hope you can make it.

Currently have it penciled in, as it seems to work with my current schedule.  Need to shore up a few things on the '75 before I embark on a longish trip.  Just picked up a set of saddlebags and full fairing, but I'm thinking a mini-fairing may be a better choice for an early 750F.  I'd be coming from Flint, MI and wouldn't mind meeting up with a few on the way down.

My 750F has a minifairing on it. I was surprised at how effective it was. I was just as happy with it as I was the small windshield I used on my 550 for long trips. It definitely isn't a Windjammer, but it kept the wind off my chest and made long stretches at highway speeds no problem.

Saw this article on Ride Now about Motorcycle trips and common mistakes made...

Worth reading.

https://www.rideapart.com/articles/401484/top-5-mistakes-motorcycle-travel/amp/

One article I recall reading said to lay everything out in a pile and then eliminate 1/2 of it.
A few other ideas...
Silver threaded or woven with silver threads for socks and undergarments are naturally antimicrobial as are coconut fibers can allow you to ride extended periods without worrying as much about bacterial issues from a series of long days on the bike in warm weather and sweating.
Don't forget to pack some baby shampoo so you can wash your helmet liner regularly during your distance riding after every day's long day with the helmet on.
A packable pair of sandals or water shoes to give your boots time to air out every day as well. Or, better yet comfortable shoes you could hike in or enjoy other activities off the bike.

We won't be dealing with 10k foot altitudes like the Colorado reunion so, it will not be as dramatic a change when creating or riding the Blue Ridge Parkway or Cherohala Highway or in the other parts of the Appalachian Mountains in the region. Sure it gets colder but not typically often as much as 40F cooler that is seen in parts of Colorado.
Here in Tucson we are at 2400 ft roughly. Daytime temps were at 83F today. Summerhaven on Mount Lemmon in the Rincons, the northern mountain range surrounding  Tucson is at 8800 ft and it was 61F today. That's desert typical type temp differences.
Look at Cherokee and Gatlinburg and Knoxville for similar comparisons... Today according to AccuWeather it was around 51-52f for a high for all three locations.

Temp differences are usually in the 15-20 degree range between the valley and the mountains unless we are dealing with My. Mitchell, the highest point on the BRP.

Worth looking at and near Cherokee, NC where it is proposed we stay...

10 days or a week before I leave, Is sart a list. Keep in my pocket with a pen. Everytime I think if something I should take, need to do on the bike, or buy I write down.
Then as I pack  I cross off items on the list.   Every year I put sleeping Bag and air mattress on there, and almost everytime, I still leave with the same broken zipper bag and leaky air mattress ... but I don't forget the other stuff..
One thing I take now is my Milwaukee 12 v flashlight, it can double as a kickstart battery to get you a lot further  if you have electrical trouble.

The little Lithium Ion battery jump starters go for about $60-70 and many of them can easily serve as a battery as Frank suggests and with a little electrical connector work can also serve as a campsite battery to charge your phone or gps if you use one of those. Or, if you have a 12v/14.4v battery powered light like Frank's tool light they are super handy.
Word of caution on the lithium booster packs, look at how long they take to recharge, some will take Days with their wall charger. Buy one that can recharge overnight if you have not ran it past 1/2 depleted. First charge some batteries will require a longer initial charge.  But, today no lithium battery is going to ship with less than 70% charged or it can be damaged by deep discharge.
The metal cases lithium ion LiFeO4 type chemistry batteries are very fire resistant and much safer, unlike the lithium batteries typically used in phones.

REI has they annual sale going on right now and I can use my member code to get additional $ off those sale items if you want to buy a new lightweight warm sleeping bag Frank. Sleeping bags aren't inexpensive but better to buy them on sale if you were getting one of the brands they carry.

I would like to join in, but somewhere in speed-reading 4 pages I missed a solid date.  Is there one?  I will already be riding to Tn & Nc twice this year, but love the area and it would be a great reason for another trip.

Looks like it's mainly about bankerdanny meeting mooshie  ;D ;D
Danny has already met Mooshie at the first reunion in CO. For me, it was the second time for both her and Fatmatt, as I had met them both on the 2nd relay. I also got to meet Jerry, Greg, Frank, Terry, Joe, Gene, Bud, Bucky, and I can't recall who else for the first time, even though we've conversed online for years.
I'm looking forward to seeing Lisa again, as well as David, who I haven't seen since the first relay in 2011. ;D ;D

Holy shyte...whos that jackass on the far right that forgot to bring his honda

Hey just getting everyone together for this group picture was a major accomplishment.  All bikes welcomed  ;)  It was a great time though I don't think I can recall everyone's name-- I'm so used to online names that learning real ones got confusing
