K2 CB750 Speedo adjustment and Tach Face
« on: July 19, 2019, 09:32:43 AM »
I paid a lot of money for a beautiful NOS 1972 K2 Speedo. Problem is, when I KNOW im doing 90mph, this thing only reads like 65. How can that be adjusted?

Also does anyone know of a service that changes the FACE of the tach? Mine is faded and yuck and I want to change it. Or is it something I can do myself?

I love seeing 200 miles on the odometer of my new speedo. lol

The only practical way to adjust/calibrate the spedo would be to get a different gearing for the drive or a smaller diameter tire.  Tire would have to be a lot smaller to make up that much difference.

The spedo works by driving a magnetic disk inside the unit.  That induces a torque on another disk right next to the magnetic disk.  There is a clock spring to counter the induced torque.  It might be possible to relax the spring a little but it isn't something I would fool with.  The spring end is staked in a slot to hold it.  You would have to find a way to loosen where the spring is staked and "unwind" a bit of spring if there is any to unwind.

Yes, you can replace the faces on the gages.  Not that hard to do but it takes patience.  The hard part is re-crimping the crimp ring that holds the top and bottom halves together  You can order the faces and parts here:  https://www.cb750faces.com/cb750faces.nl/

Wrong front wheel/hub with speedo gear?
Or cable issues somehow?

Well, there ya go. I have a CT70 with a 140cc engine and a 40-something inch wheelbase. It feels like I'm doing 110 on it in my neighborhood,  so I MUST be. Right?

In my last post i mentioned I will test it out, the bikes true speed, with my GPS. I will let everyone know the results.

You do not have electrical signs with laser or radar that show your vehicle's speed beside the road?

We can have it here sometimes when Police want to show people how fast they drive. Most people will correct their speed to legal direct while I see the opportunity to check my speedometer in higher speed than allowed to easier get how many % too much it will show.
My K6 speedo show max 2.5% too much.
