Terry is right...the blower on the Interceptor was a hollowed out blower body with an electric motor inside it for those scenes where he flips the switch...the entire assembly was mounted ontop of a standard 351 C with a 4 barrel.....yea im a mad max fan as well but i went to the point of researching the movie as far as i could lol...

I actually sat in that car mate, it was built by a bloke in Richmond (a Melbourne suburb) and an Army friend of mine knew the builder, so he sneaked me in so I could check it out.

At that stage Mel Gibson was just an unknown young actor, and the real star (for me) was the chief stuntman, Grant Page, he had balls as big as water melons, and could do things on a bike or in a car that I could only dream about. Cheers, Terry.  ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Not to argue, but I read somewhere that they filmed the blower start/stop by turning the engine on an off.  If so, they made a cool visual the simple way.

Also, I don't think that most Americans know that the US version was dubbled in American English.  You can tell by the fact that the guy with the voicebox is the only one that speaks with an Aussie accent.  Mel Gibson's voice doesn't sound right either.  The Australian version is now available here now.

Cool.  Terry sat in the last of the V8 interceptors! ;D

Hmmm.  Just looked some interesting information that I didn't know.  The blower in both movies was fake (at least that's what the website I was looking at said).  I always knew the one in The Road Warrior was fake but didn't know that about Mad Max.  The one difference with Mad Max was they actually used a real Weiland 8-71 blower apparently mounted to the underside of the hood.  The one on The Road Warrior was a kit that could be purchased in the late 70's early 80's that basically mounted on top of a single carb tunnel ram.  I stand corrected.
Funny though, I could swear I read in Hot Rod of all places (many, many moons ago) that the Mad Max car actually used it's blower.  Oh well.

The blower in the car for The Road Warrior was fake.  Someone used to sell those kits in the late 70's.  However the one in the original Mad Max was a Weiland blower and quite real.  If you watch The Road Warrior you can definitely tell the difference and spot on with the tunnel ram going up the middle of it.  Good movie trivia though, not too many people know that.

Nah mate, the original was a fake, that was the car I was talking about. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Gonna catch ya both on something....the car used in both movies is the same car. They only modified the original Interceptor to reflect the changes that would have occured over the timeline of the movies. the only time they used a second car for it was the one that blew up near the end of Road warrior.

Ford Falcons were cool.  Wish Ford had brought them to the states.  They had a real muscle car look to them and real nice lines.

That's right mate, that's the car I had a look at after the first Mad Max movie. I know they used it again for the second one, and I think it's in a car Museum in Britain now?  ;D

I had several of that model mate, (1976-1978 XC Falcon) good cars for sure, but (and I'm a Ford fan) on a quiet day, you can hear 'em rusting, ha ha! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Wouldn't that make it hard for him to walk around, Terry?

If Mel sounded a bit American it may be due to the fact he was born and lived in Peekskill NY until he was 13. So Australias best known actor is an American. Anthony LaPaglia and Poppy Montgemery from the TV show "Missing" are Australia. It seems the only Australian allowed to speak like one is the Doctor in House and he tries to speak kind of English. Go figure.

Mad Max is on Speed channel tonight.  Just FYI.  Man, did we highjack this thread or what?

Oh yeah, bad motorcycle movies...  that was it.  I nominate anything starring Jack Nicholson that relates to motorcycles.

True, but it didn't really sound like his voice.  I didn't know Hugh Laurie was an Aussie.  I thought he was a Brit.  He was absolutely hilarious in Jeeves & Wooster.  At the moment, Russel Crowe may be better known here than Mel, and as far as I know, he was born in New Zealand.

Yeah, it's all true guys, a lot of famous Aussie "stars" (Mel G, Rusty Crowe, Olivia Newton John, Nicole Kidman, the Bee Gee's, etc etc) were actually born in countries other than the great brown land of Oz, but no biggie, they were either trained, or at least given the opportunity here in Oz, so that's good enough for us to call 'em Aussies, ha ha!

Hugh Laurie is English I think, (he was brilliant in "The Black Adder" too, if you guys were lucky enough to get that show) but I'm happy to call him an Aussie too, ha ha! Cheers, Terry.  ;D

I am voting for Born Losers which was the first Movie the character Billy Jack appeared.

That one was aired on cable just today. I fell in love with the cute chick in the film that Billy ends up protecting. She only made a couple movies. Her name is Elizabeth James...what a sweetie  ;)

One of the thug bikers in the movie was also in The Longest Yard. A big and ugly muscled up Algonquin Indian.
