Michiganders, where do you buy steel in Detroit?
« on: July 23, 2019, 03:10:19 AM »
I am staying in Detroit for a week;  figured I could find some DOM tubing I need for fabrication.  In DC metro the steel supply situation is pathetic.

Anybody knows a good place that sells to public by foot?

You’re wasting your time.

Thank you, but time is what I have up here in MI  ;D

Besides $15 for the steel and $24 for shipping?  I don't think so.

Alro steel is good. Never been to the Detroit store but I use the one in Kalamazoo all the time. They will sell lots of stuff by the foot, some is by the 6' or 8' stick but still reasonable prices and selection is great.

I found Alro Metals Outlet 5 miles from here, great store.  I wish we had one near DC.

You went to Troy? Not Livonia. Criminy, sorry I'm not being a better host.
I'm thinking you're out in Oakland county?
Go to the Ducati shop for some demo rides.
Get to the Red Coat Tavern for a terrific burger.
Bring your CB next time.

Madison Heights actually.  Yesterday I visited some polish food stores too - quite the treat.    ;D

I am dog sitting for my oldest.   When she comes back from her business trip, we will definitely check out the Red Coat Tavern.  She works for one of the big three and they are somewhere in Colorado/Utah testing vehicles towing and cooling.

She just bought 1974 CB360 as a project, we will be tearing into it too.

Polish Village Cafe in Hamtramck
2990 Yemans, just off Joseph Campau
Call before you go, I read a post about power problems from the recent storm - that was a dinger!

Srodeks Campau Quality Sausage
9601 Joseph Campau
Hamtramck, also in Sterling Hgts

It's too bad, the big Polish Market left Hamtramck and relocated to Troy at Maple and Dequindre, but I don't begrudge anybody wanting a safer place to shop, to live.

I'm late on this but my son gave a thumbs up to Alro.

Get that CB going and we will have a ride out to Washtenaw, Livingston, Jackson counties. It's not the Blue Ridge, but it's the best I've got.
