Leak from Tach Cable K2 750
« on: July 25, 2019, 05:55:25 AM »
Put the new Yamiya kit on my bike yesterday. Over the past week I had been smelling burning oil. I checked around where the tach cable goes into the head and saw it leaking very slowly.

What is the cure for this?

There’s a small seal in the cam cover, under the cable. Search ‘tach seal” on this forum for lots of info.

I pull them out with a crochet hook (whole set of them $3 at Joann Fabric stores). You can buy individual seals from CB750Supply.
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

Do not press too hard with a small screw driver, the valve cover is very thin under that seal and can crack, pieces to fall inside cam holder. I know...
Quick fix when I knew a guy that had valve covers and my bike has Franks frame kit. Garage time instead of relaxing TV that evening. No frame kit..what a waste of time!

And what do you use to push the new one in?

Push it in and then gently seat it by tapping a socket slightly smaller then the cable fit hole to gently seat it.Little thin film of grease around the outside of seal won't hurt.
