O rings for 1000CC cylinders
« on: July 31, 2019, 12:07:44 AM »
Hi there

I'm doing the slowest build ever for my 1000CC engine and might get back into it this weekend so I have a question.

The O ring that goes at the base of the cylinders provided in the seal kit is probably not for 1000CC size barrel.  Do you think it is OK to use the O ring provided in the seal kit from Cycle X or should I be looking for a larger diameter O ring.

Thanks for your time
Scott

They have not used silicone between sleeves and cylinder, sealing it up completely?   Hi-temp oil resistent silicone, not that visible until looking for it. Press it inside that clearance, shape it flat before curing to an o-ring.

Something like this

I have used three bond 1103 (or whatever the number designation is now). Same as Yamabond, Hondabond etc. It is more liquid and flows better into the space

That's great news thanks.

So much easier than trying to find a suitable O ring.

Have a good one

My old big motor had o rings stretched onto the barrels, they slid down and got eaten by rotating parts. They ended up in the pump screen as were a couple of other o rings loose in there. Apparently the clearance between the sleeves and cylinder block was loose enough to allow them to slide off.  The PO must have given up on the race motor as is was haphazardly assembled.
