Looks like you ended up with the NOS tank that was your brother's. That gold color is amazing.
Acctually its new paint! There is a ton of clearcoat on so there is alot of room for polishing out scratches that might happen later on.
Is it running yet?
I have nominated your build.

Its not on the road yet, im still waiting for the fuel tap. Gonna get it run in, put the stickers on, sync the carbs. I want to restore the chainguard aswell, its got alot of microscratches. gonna try and polish those out with 4k paper as an experiment. Once i have it out on the road i can take some better pictures and then i can accept the nomination. Thanks for the nomination btw.
This is how the old tank looked like. I was sure to remove and color that was inside the oring on the fuel tap. This is what happens once the gas starts creeping inside the paint, notice the bubbles. Its not to bad, good thing i noticed when i was emptying it of gas for storage for a build later on.
Thanks everyone for your kind words. I have been kind of busy so havent been a whole lot of documentation of the build in this thread from my part. Soon comes the next part of a new project. School is out next week and there is nothing really to do at work so im probably without work. it means i will have alot of time this summer but no steady money income except for a tax refund, so we are on a budget here. I have started to slowly buy parts for two new projects:
a Cb500 mystery race engine. Its totally rebuilt by someone but the pistons are hitting the sparkplugs. (could it be a 650 crank? i read that it had 2mm longer stroke) That tells me it should have real high compression. I've tested it by removing all plugs and and it had 150psi> (the electrical drill burned out while pulling it around) I guess its good for a engine that has never been run. It dont know much about it except for what is revealed from the outside. Ported head, outlets for oil cooler. 650 pump. K3 engine block but with the k1 clutch, not sure what guts. heavy duty studs, should be a new primary chain and bearings. The cb500 tacho drive fits, im curious to what camshaft is in there. It would be silly if its a standard, not sure if it could be a 650 when the tacho drive fits, but should be the most reasonable choice. Im not sure what to expect
I found a cheap K0 frame, perhaps i could do some kind of cheap "scrape the floor" bike with the parts that did not make it for this restoration.
Got myself a Cb750 k2 frame. Was thinking it could be fun to do a bigger bike aswell. With loaned parts from my brother that has build around the years, i could pay him back once stuff is back in order. It would be a shame to just waste all this time by doing nothing.
Would be fun to restore the VFR400 aswell but sourcing parts for it will get alot harder with the brexit in half a year. That surely will need some economic muscles and it would suck to be forced to sell a bike that i dont want to sell so im guessing it will have to wait a while. Some milage on it this summer will keep both me and the bike happy atleast.
