1979 CB650 Speedometer Replacement
« on: August 02, 2019, 10:25:23 AM »
Hey all,
I am knew to this, I searched the historical forums and did not see any that helped with my particular answer.
I was gifted a 1979 CB650 last weekend. It is in GREAT SHAPE, just the speedometer is jacked. The glass is all frosted over with (my best guess) glue, and it takes a good mile for it to register you actual speed.

Since I am new to riding, I am super uncomfortable not knowing my exact speed at all times.

I am looking online for a replacement, but I just cannot decide the best route to take. I see a few on eBay ranging from $60-$160.. I also see aftermarket parts ranging from $50-$400. I checked with the junk yards in a 50 mile radius, nothing.

I am really just hoping I can get some tips on identifying what will work with my bike, and maybe flushing out some new routes to take. I would like to keep this as plug and play as possible, but am willing to do some wiring if that means I can "fix" this sooner rather than later.

Thanks!

As soon as I posted this I found a topic about using a cb750 speedo...
plenty of those on ebay for cheaper than $60.

I am thinking I will just go that route.

I will leave this thread open still for any advice.
