My brother-in-law just sent me a text asking if I wanted a free '78 550 with title that a co-worker of his wants out of his garage.

What a silly question, of course I want it. I just rented a new garage space near me to keep my 750 and my parts stash in that will have plenty of room for another bike.

My Cb750K6 cost me $5 at auction, so ya beat me! And I didn't get a title or key. Found out today that the motor is not stuck, just the kick starter.

Sounds like a great deal to me too. I found that same bike at a rummage sale a few years ago with 9,800 miles for $450 I believe. You did REAL well...and title adds the icing! Can't wait to see the pics!

Great score! The fun of putting a "free" bike back on the pavement is one I think every wrench should get to do, at least once. It feels SO good!

My brother-in-law is thinking he might actually want the bike himself. Apparently after 8 years of watching me cycle through 3 SOHC4's and 1 GL1000 he would like to have a bike again. He had a tricked out Harley when he and my sister got back together about 12 years ago (the dated in high school 30 years ago). He sold it for the down payment on their house. After everything he's done for me (like driving to Indiana and Wisconsin to pick up bikes) I am more than happy to let him keep the bike and get it on the road if he wants.

That's cool. I've helped a couple people with getting their vehicles so they can use them. My own mini version of "Overhaulin" I'm no Chip Foose but I know the feeling.

I paid $200 a few years ago for a titled roller 550 with a stuck engine just to get the frame.

That frame, now cleaned up and painted, never got used and I will likely sell it sooner or later as just a frame and get my $200 back.

I don't actually know what my BIL wants to do with it yet. If he wants to go back to stock I have forks and a seat (although it's a super sport seat vs the stock '78) and headlamp. If he wants to keep it a chop then we can do that too.
