Gauge face plate, or decal?
« on: August 03, 2019, 12:14:19 PM »
Having a really hard time finding the plate or decal for 76F 750. I'd like white, mph, F red line.
Recommendations,  plate vs decal?
I've bought a crashed set off eBay for parts. Ive stripped them, polished needles, and wet sanded 1 plate, other broken.
Not dissassembeling mine till I find replacements .
Ideas, options?
Thanks.

New plates let light shine thru them. A little bit blinding in the dark.
I should paint the rear side with blue-green spray paint to look closer to stock that do not let the illumination to shine right thru.

the problem that your talking about is that the original honda faceplate is made out of green plastic and marcel uses a white plastic. The left one in the pic is the original honda plate and marcel's is the white one on the right.
you can buy stick on translucent film , green pictured, cut out and stick on the back of marcel's plate. I used two cutouts for the plate to get the shade of green needed to match the original. orafol.com..

I found a good set for my 550 but the red zone was faded so I had an outfit that does decals for RC aircraft recreate just that part.

I Google CB750faceplates.com,  and no site comes up, just a bunch utube videos?
cb750faces  comes up as a site, is this it?
I really would like white, can't find anywhere except kph version?
Black will do if not available.
So even with stock 3w bulbs, their too bright ?
Thanks

That's what I thought.
Nice stuff, reasonable prices.
Mine are green(F1 style). To go to black, I think I need F0 style?
I like the F2 ,with kph inside mph, but tack calibration looks to be different?
Not the red line but the start and straight up?
Are they interchangeable? Are gauges calibrated same, just different faces?

Ive never seen a stock , 70's , 750 faceplate from honda in black...the colors through that decade were light green, dark green and what i call a " blue".....from what i know of 750 components.
Yes, because of the white plastic material marcel uses, it let's more light through from the bulbs.as compared to the original........i explained that above...

I think regular bulbs would be a warmer color, I liked the idea of less heat in there and I seldom ride a night.

On the site, their was light green,(similar to my k clock set now),and what looked like black, might be dark green? I ordered the dark ones for a F clock set, hoping they will fit? They have a higher red section(does not mater, with the 836 kit I rarely pass 9K, it is still pulling strong though), just wondering bout the Speedo, and rpm ,calibration being the same, start and stop points. My junk set I tore apart for experience and parts are light green k style.
Anyone other than joker make a reasonably priced clamp ring set?

I'm very pleased with the gauge faces from Marcel /CB750faces. I'll buy from him again for my next project.

I used green 5 SMD LED lights, they are more uniformly green in real life. The camera makes the outside look whiter than it is, and the inside darker than it is. The inner light reflector part of the gauges I just sand blaster and painted either gloss or semi gloss white to reflect the light.

Stock illumination is hard to beat  Very cozy, not blinding and still visible. I have both K2 and K6 gauges.

Thread I found shows a screw holding the trip reset knob on? Mine has a black plastic unfurled knob, no center hole? Does it just screw off?  Won't stay still because of trip turning? After disassembly I could hold it I side gauge housing with pliers, maybe?

Got it apart. Theirs a lock nut on the backside of the knob shaft, mean little bigger to get at,left threads, loosened after housing comes apart.
