Topic: kz900 looking for opinions

A co-worker has a running kz900 (74-75 not quite sure) that he was looking to sell. It is not in original condition.
Is this a bike worth considering.

Mic, is it dark at night? Absolutely. The 1973 Z1 is the most valuable, but the Z1A and Z1B are very collectable. The KZ900 was born in 1976. All are nice bikes. A nice condition 1974 - 1975 could bring $4~8,000 easy. A fully restored one could go $10~12,000. I helped a friend of mine buy 2 just this week. A non-running bike with wrong paint, seat, and pipes still cost him $2,000.

Go for it. The bike is DOHC. Stock they made 81 hourse power, they are a bit heavier on top than the CB750, but really run for ever like the Hondas.

Hoped I've help you make the leap... Seriously, if you don't "junk" it up, cut on it, or drastically cheapen it, then every cent you spend on it will be returned when you sell. It's one of the few bikes out there that will continue to go up in value. I'm affraid the CB750's (non-sandcast) are just too available. Honda made over 60,000 a year for 10 years.

Check out KZRider. It's a message board just like here  that dediccated to the KZ bikes.

I'd say go for it if the guy's not asking too much.

KZ900's range in price from around $1000 for a rough bike to $2000 for a cosmetically nice bike that's not original, up to $4000-$5000 or more for a very nice all original bike.

The engines are super tough as over-engineered as any motorcycle engine.  It is VERY rare you fine one with any serious engine problems.  Even if there are problems, there isn't much you can't get for them - if you want to see some of the parts for those bikes, have a look at our web site.

       Hey, I'm with ya there breeze, when the 900s came out I was checking them out. Couldn't manage to get one though/ Had a financial problem, ya know? Did get a chance to ride one though, and was I IMPRESSED! That sucker was BAD!!
