1975 CB400F paint code - RED
« on: August 09, 2019, 05:15:33 AM »
The tank on my 1975 CB400f needs to be painted (red).  Paint code or a Paint brand/match would be helpful.  It has been rattle canned at lest once so taking the tank to a paint shop for matching won't work.

Thanks,

Mike

Could it be Candy antares red? Code: R-6C-S. Source: p. 2 of Parts List http://www.honda4fun.com/pdf_parts_list/pdf_spac400/CB400F-F1-F2/CB400F-F1-F2.pdf

Code means nothing to anybody except Honda as they are not industry standard cobes.

Not candy, just a plain red. Is the underside (frame tunnel) painted over? usually that's left original color.

I used an Acura Paint on mine and it came out pretty good, got a BOTM  8) . Just went to my paint guy and looked at his Honda and Acura swatches. The build is on this site if you search.

Porsche Guards red is a very close match.  Be warned, though, red is the most expensive pigment and may run as much or maybe more then $200 a pint.

Yes, but in the meanwhile there are quite some specialists out there, that - when given the code or the color description - know what color you're talking about and know what to do. http://www.tanklackieren.de/Honda-colours/ (Scroll down to Honda CB400.)

Thanks for the information.  I'm hoping to get it as close to original as possible.  If I were just painting it 'red' I'd use the Dragon Red Piaggio uses on their Vespa scooters.
