Yup! We lived in a suburb of Toronto and I remember all the moms saying: “be home before the street lights come on”. Can you imagine that today!

Almost every Friday and Saturday evening right after dark you could count on us kids gathering on the curb under the street light....”1,2,3....NOT IT!” Was the cry in near unison as the first round of hide ‘n go seek was played.

I was born in '52, graduated high school in 1970. However it took several more years before I " grew up".and I still have my doubts!

No street lights where I lived, but many fond memories of camping out in my buddies avocado grove, cooking dinner and breakfast on an an open fire, we were real pioneers at 10 years old. I can't see stuff like that happening now.

I lived in Lévis, Quebec, Canada (a large city) for my early years then moved to rural New Hampshire to start schooling. Made me the man I am today. ;-)

Then when I was older and just married,
I moved from Manchester, NH to "tourist area" Vermont so my children could grow up in a country setting. I had seen too many kids in the cities turn to drugs and stuff.  It is much more difficult to manage simple tasks in the countryside but Glad I did and my kids turned out ok.

Lots of open areas for dirt bike riding where I lived where there are now houses and sub-divisions and there were lots of pheasants and other game birds for hunting that are all gone now.  So glad I grew up and enjoyed childhood and early adolescents  when I did.

I was 11 years old in the Summer of 1987.  This video is dead-on.  The only difference for me is instead of a wiffle bat my brother and I used to swat the fireflies with a frisbee and then throw it back and forth down the street to make it look like a UFO.  ;D

When I was just in my teens ,the legend of Evil Knievel was in full swing. The Cesar's Palace crash was one that I could watch over and over and still not know how he survived it but at the time we all thought we were immune to anything other than broken bones and he was the proof. The record for jumping a bicycle back in 72 was 22 feet and we were determined to beat it. Broken bikes , sprains and fractures wasn't a deterrent , it may have taken years before we realized that we could beat the mark on almost any motorcycle so we so we upgraded to dirt bikes and that became a thing of the past.
A few Honda 500's, a few Honda 550's, a few Honda 650's, '72 cb 450, a couple 500/550/650 hybrids, and 2001 750.

hall...I also was a 60's & 70's kid. Below is my new CB450K in the orange. Yes, that is a winter coat and there is a bit of snow on the ground. Graduated HS in 72 and had a blast on the bikes. Road all day long on 50 cents worth of gasoline. No iPhones, computers, iPads, video games, etc. to rule our day. We had fun the ol' fashion way...together with our friends.

We would kick cans everywhere we went in between rides while hitchhiking. Hitch hiking , you never know what kind of nut job would pick you up, sometimes it was the ones we were warned about , sometimes it was lonely women , and sometimes it was the guy in the superbird with $20 dollars taped to the dash..." if you can grab it when I dump the clutch it's yours". we found out what 100mph looked like at an early age but it wasn't always fun and games.
Rotary phones took forever to dial but, if you knew the right phone number it was really hard to mis-dial.
And it's really a shame that there is no more wide world of sports or mutual of omaha wild kingdom,or FBI  brought to you by Ford Motor Company....only mustang makes it happen, only mustang makes it great mustang moves you , mustang grooves you Mustang ,Mustang sixty-eight was the jingle , never knew whaat the hell it meant but boy did I want a Mustang!
I had a collection of stingray bikes back then. Then the Raliegh chopper came out, 3 speed  16 inch front wheel no more bannana seat it was a long one with real cushion in it, they came in orange or green. we would saw the forks off our 26 in wheel bikes and braze them on the chopper bikes ...that tiny little 16 in wheel sitting way out front ,oh my.
A few Honda 500's, a few Honda 550's, a few Honda 650's, '72 cb 450, a couple 500/550/650 hybrids, and 2001 750.

Being a 55’er, and always looking for mischief,  another thing we used to do in the mid sixties just for fun, was we’d take those Revell model kits, oh say of a B17 bomber, drizzle that flammable Testors model glue all over it, then attach kite string to the planes wing tip. Kite string it was because we all had those 59 cent red Jolly Roger stick and paper kites and a big wadded up ball of string. Anyway, we did this right at dark. We’d  light the plane on fire, and while the entire plane was engulfed in flames and dripping balls of glue on fire, we’d spin that thing around from it’s wingtip laughing hysterically till it completely melted, and then inspect the remains.
Those were the days...
Oh- and speaking of ABC’s Wide World of Sports, remember that “agony of defeat” part where that ski jumper wipes out over the side of the ramp before his jump? I hated that part.

I built a lot of models to Mike. Mainly WWII ships and boats. We had a pond behind our house and I sent many to the bottom of that pond. I would put them a float and than sitting on the bank sink them with my Daisy BB gun. No telling how many models were on the bottom of that pond ;D Yes those were the days.
Before the road I lived on was paved I remember trucks coming down our dirt road spraying used oil on it to keep the dust down. Try doing that today and you'll get hauled off to jail.
