Who's mom made you take this nasty chalk tasting stuff.

The Phillips factory was located close to my home in the Glenbrook section of Stamford, CT. When we were kids we used to get onto the property through a hole in the fence near the railroad track. Those little blue bottles were all over the place on the grounds of the factory. Bringing back lots of good memories.

I'm originally from Stamford,Ct,we lived off Hope st.,North of Sprindale:Eden rd.
funny story...I almost ended up unintentionally living there when my rock band's tour van wheel fell off on the freeway...took 3 expensive days spending money I did not have to get the rear brake parts needed to get going again
If it works good, it looks good...

Been to Glenbrook many times, United Housewrecking was my favorite store for finding architectural items for restoring older homes. That place got so busy that folks would come in on bus trips. Haven't been there in years, but it was a going concern in the 90's.
A few Honda 500's, a few Honda 550's, a few Honda 650's, '72 cb 450, a couple 500/550/650 hybrids, and 2001 750.

Got towed to nearest service station in stamford, walked from there to nearest cheap motel.  Which just so happened to be mostly populated with puerto rican hookers and was nearly right across the street from WWF world headquarters...this is one of those experiences where looking back years later all i can think is..."did this really happen to me?"

Good lord, this was over 10 years ago.  I would have to look at a map.  We were on our way from Boston to Brooklyn...seem to remember a strangely named parkway...Tekonic?  Do remember walking a huge overpass...the road it crossed was like 6 lanes in each direction.  May have been I95.  Did do a lot of wandering about stamford on foot.  I did finally end up finding the parts on my own.  Walked back to the service station, i remember it was a firestone tire shop, marched straight up to the mechanic, put the parts directly in his hand, told him to put it back together NOW...i am getting the #$%* OUT of here.
If it works good, it looks good...

Sean,You Really did go through some stuff there ! I remember the Taconic Parkway,it's in New York state and runs N. & S. from Albany down toward NYC real close to the West border of CT. & NY state:it's an excellent road,no big trucks allowed:more of a scenic ride through the country.
When you mention the huge overpass, that may have been downtown Stamford(our family moved away from there to MA. back in the mid 70's)where I.95 passes through.I just wish you had a better experience with repairing your van when you needed that emergency repair.

Look what I found ;D
Shot this a lot when I was a kid and hadn't seen this little gem of a 22 rifle in years. Found it under a bunch of stuff in a closet. Still in good shape to be 50 plus years old, just needs a good cleaning. It's actually a Winchester 190 semi-auto 22 sold by Sears as the model 3T in the 1960's. Not really worth much as far as $$'s but the the memories are worth a lot to me ;)

Seanbarney41, You would have been at exit 9 on I 95, That is no place that anyone would want to be during a breakdown.
The Taconic Parkway is a nice ride, no commercial vehicles allowed on it, smooth curves, mostly wooded both sides the whole ride. But heavily policed , riders and sports cars are like fish in a barrel for the state police on that road...also very loaded with deer, but on a sunny summer day is a ride that is hard to beat. Taconic Lake park is a nice place to stop for a sandy beach in the mountains and there are cabins that can be rented for the night but you'll need to call months in advance to get one. Nice place to stop on a New  England ride.

'59 vintage here.  I recall being a Nipper back in Salford when it wasn't a requirement to lock the doors as nobody had anything worth nicking anyway! In fact there was a cover which the Coalman delivered coal down into the Cellar and there were steps up to the Kitchen with no thought of any lock on the door.  It was more down to respect than anything else, which is in short supply nowadays.  My Mum would "Donkeystone" the doorstep and mop the pavement outside our house.  Being skint didn't stop you having an enormouse sense of pride.  Oh, and all the neighbours were referred to as Auntie or Uncle.  I don't miss the outside toilet though.

Seanbarney,
That would be the old Stamford Motor Inn off exit 9 of I-95. A famous place for hookers and drug deals back in the day. I believe they used to charge by the hour for a room. You definitely found yourself some de-luxe accommodations there!

rb550four,
United Housewrecking had an excellent collection of vintage architectural items for many years. They just recently had their “going out of business” sale and closed their doors.

Grcamna2,
I know Eden Rd. very well, it’s one of the roads I take back to my house when I’m out riding. I grew up in Belltown right near the park. I currently live in the Pepper Ridge area by Rippowam High School.

I lived on 282 Eden rd. when I was a child, right on a hard corner,I miss not staying there any longer as I used to race the neighbor Richard who had a CL100 and I had a Honda CT90:I used to beat him when he had the CT70H,then he got the CL100.I remember the Sterling Farms trails down the end of Twin Brook Dr. where Richard lived, just straight-down the street, looking from the end of our driveway;me and my sisters used to go walking through there.I missed those woods when they built the golf course..

I was born in the late 50's.
I went to Rippowam High School for one year, then our family had the 'great' idea to move to an island off Cape Cod,MA.,a snobby place.. I was the only one who didn't want to do the move.

Ok, I was born in the mid-sixties and to my memory the golf course has always been there. I also attended Rippowam High School. It closed down in the mid eighties and has since reopened for different educational purposes. It is now a middle school. Small world.

We walked downtown to the Chevy dealership because we heard they finally uncovered the new 67 Camaro in the showroom. I think it was light blue.

In the early 70's , A few of us would skip school and hitch hike to the Honda shop some 30 miles away just to get some new parts and see the new bikes. Always a fun time. Today....you'd have to be nuts to hitch hike, there be some crazy people out there.

Of course every kid today wants a tree house, when I was a  kid we  had  underground forts  ....an abandoned  stone cellar with a make shift roof about 4 feet tall. Lots of camp outs with neighborhood kids in the summer., later it was the secret place to party .  It seemed every neighborhood we visited had one somewhere. Haven't heard of any around here , but I guess being a secret  was part of the charm. Wonder if kids do that stuff any more.

Yes 'forts' built in the woods were popular when I was a kid. In the neighborhood I was in we were early moving in to what was a growing little sub division out in the country. Lots of scrap wood as they were building houses but as each lot sold we lost more motorcycle trails. People complained because our lot was the good blackberry patch.  :D
