How do I remove paint from plastic emblems?
« on: August 29, 2019, 07:31:07 PM »
I have a set of plastic side cover emblems from a CB650 (somewhere between a 80 and 82). These emblems are gold plastic with black and red paint. The paint is flaking off so I would like to strip and repaint them without damaging the gold plastic. Anyone have experience with this? The picture attached is what they looked like new.

Once the paint starts flaking, it's easy to use something like a dental pick to chip away at the rest. I imagine a safety pin would work too. They're plastic and usually brittle from age, so I don't bother trying anything strong, not even thinner.

Some of the paint is flaking, but some is still on pretty well. I will try a dental pick or the like first. I had heard brake fluid would work, but have not heard of anyone trying it on Honda emblems.

you might find that nail polish remover on a cotton bud ( Q tip ?) might get any real stubborn stuff off

try it on the back first to make sure it doesn't affect the gold plating
i blame Terry

Great idea with the nail polish remover. I’ll do a test on the back first.
