Topic: Late model 550K and 550F gas tank overflow/drain tube

 On the late model K and the F model tanks with the flip up fuel door there is an overflow or spill drain tube. I know how the tube routes underneath the tank. Then it connects to joint so  that you can remove the tank.
 Where/how does the other piece of drain house route?

 I'm talking about #21 in the diagram.

If it’s long enough, I’d assume it goes behind the engine with the carb overflow tubes. Unless on the air box there might be a pipe it connects to that carries it down.

 It doesn't attach to the air box. I had a '78 K once, and I know it ran down the frame to route spilled gas to the ground.  I just can't remember how/where it was routed.

on mine it goes down the front left corner of the airbox. there is some space there where you can just shove it down between airbox and frame.
no idea if that is stock, though.

It routes back down the frame and then down to between the swing arm and the engine case. 

It is a well drain to allow fuel spillage around the tank filler hole to route to ground rather than on any hot engine bits.

These can plug with debris and insects when left unattended, and should be checked periodically.
