1978 Muffler Question
« on: October 22, 2019, 06:24:39 AM »
I know this is pretty esoteric, but here goes: Have a 1978 CB750 F Super Sport that needs to have the OEM muffler chromed. Question is, can the black muffler end cap and baffles be removed without totally destroying it. If so, how please? The fasteners resemble oversized, hollow rivets and do not seem to screw in like a conventional bolt-type fastener. Thanks in advance for any and all responses.

Vintage, what you are describing  may be obvious to a 750 owner but you might get some other muffler experienced owners’ input if you shared a few pictures. A lot of these guys are welding gurus. They might have some good advice on opening a muffler up and piecing back together.  Just a suggestion. Unfortunately I’m not one of them I’m sorry to say.  :-\

If you find a shop that will re-chrome exhaust parts, I'd love to know who they are...

Good to know!  I mostly see claims on forums which state that plating companies won't do exhausts because they can contaminate their chemical baths.

And since new double-walled headers for the 400's are unobtanium, the cost to rechrome some decent ones might not be too bad...  ;D
