Pods on a 1978 550K
« on: February 02, 2007, 02:09:12 pm »
It seems that the pod on my #2 carb is interfering with the movement of the choke lever.  Has anyone else had this problem and/or found a solution?  I'm not sure what brand of air filters I have, they were purchased from the Parts'n More website.

https://www.partsnmore.com/cat_index.php?model=cb500&category=carb

Any info is appreciated.

had a similar prob on my '78 750k, chrome base of pod on carb #2 would not allow any movement of the choke.  i sent the set back for a full refund and put the old aftermarket air filter back on.  found out after the fact that i might have been able to bend the choke lever a tad.  be careful if you try this.  put the refund $ into a braided brake line while i shop for pods.  uni filters pk-52 may work for me, check their site.  good luck!

Yup, should be able to bend it a slight amount to avoid contact with pod

The K&N filters I bought for my 75 550 K say in the directions that the choke lever has to be bent slightly to work properly with the pods. Make sure that when you do this you only bend the lever, and not the linkage. I bent my choke lever slightly and now have no clearance problems, and everything seems to work just fine...

A little bend worked perfectly.  Thanks for the advice.

now that i know the pods i sent back can fit by bending the choke lever, i may reorder them.  just wondering tho, carb intake diameter is 46mm and pods were 42mm (partsmore same diameter).  i remember they fit but freakin' tight.  anyone have a problem with splitting the boots?

many thanks!

I can only speak for the '78 550, for which the correct pod dia. is 39mm.  They can easily be pushed on, so tightening the clamps are essential.
