Topic: CB750 Caliper Question

Good morning all,

I was looking into replacing the rotor on my 1974 CB750K4 to an EBC rotor but when I looked into it it was suggesting that I use a 77-78 caliper to accommodate it based on size. Would a 77-78 caliper fit on my current 74 caliper holder or would I have to buy the entire unit? Also, what should I be looking for to differentiate  between the two caliper holders? I’ve seen a few around the internet and they look almost identical to the 74 caliper holder. Thank you in advance!

The later caliper, mounts and fork slider are different from the early ones and as i dont do a lot of 750 i dont know when they changed

77 and 78 caliper and hanger will fit 73 to 76 750 forks.  The swing bracket is wider on the late calipers.
I think the piston is bigger, but keep in mind the hose inlet is at an angle, and solid lines look awkward. Many run  banjo fittings, myself I avoid banjo fittings,  I don't like the chunky look. If you make your own lines, you won't need them.

Alright so I will continue searching for one. They look similar which has me worried that I’ll order one and then just get a K0-K6 caliper holder and waste my money. I’ve heard that the EBC rotor is an improvement in braking and I have made many of the other suggestions to the system like braided lines, modern master cylinder, new pads, etc. Thanks for the help!

Yosh, you need the smooth body caliper and it's matching arm, not the earlier finned caliper. These were used on the F0, F1, K7, and K8. They have a 42.8 mm piston, while the finned calipers have a 38 mm piston. Also, be aware that the 550 caliper is similar in appearance, but has a 38 mm piston, and can only be used with a 550 diameter rotor.

From what I've read on sites that sell these rotors, the EBC Vintage Rotor VMD3019 is a direct replacement for the 76 CB750K and earlier. The EBC Pro-Lite MD1062LS will fit if you use the 75-76 750F or 77-78 CB750K caliper and bracket.
