Wow, I'm sitting here with my 91 year old mum watching Richmond absolutely annhilate GWS in th e AFL grand final (woohoo!) And have drunk a couple of bottles of m y home brewed ginger toe, and I'm as drunk as a skunk. Nice...... ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Yeah mate, but I'm happy that I'm a Richmond supporter, GWS were sh1t. I took 3 bottles of my home made Ginger Toe to drink during the game and my face fell off around 3 quarters of the way thru the game, so it's all a blur, I then did a walking pub crawl until sometime after 1am drinking bourbon and coke, and woke up feeling less than marvellous. Oh well, was a great day. Go Tigers! ;D

Well I took Spotty's advice and after work today I stopped off at Bunnings (big box hardware store) and bought some clear vinyl tubing that fits tightly over the tap (petcock?) on my fermenter tank, and transferred 25 litres of ol' "No 2 Brew" into a freshly sanitised ferminator. There was plenty of sludge in the bottom of the fermenter that I was able to wash out, then I sanitised the empty tank and tap/hose for next time when I transfer the fighting soup into my ferminator again.

After doing this, I should have a very clear, sludge free brew to decant into bottles. It already tastes very nice too. Happy.......... ;D

I've taken it one step further, I decanted a batch of cider into a fresh keg then decided to not bother bottling it, just drink it straight from the keg, cut out the middleman, don't have to wait for it to mature in the bottle, half a % less ALC/vol but cuts two weeks out of the equation

All good points men, well I asked the wife to pick up another 4 pounds of sugar so I could spice up batch No 2, and when I came home I dissolved the sugar in a couple of litres of hot water, added it to the fermenter, then chucked in another sachet of brewers yeast. It's all looking good, some bubbles coming up through the air lock, and no sugar in the bottom of the ferementer.

I really do love this whole brewing thing, I've knocked over 9 or 10 bottles of my home brew now, and I think they're tasting better every day! (or my taste-buds are dying a little more every day...........) ;D

Oh man, I'm on my second bottle of "Ginger Toe", and am totally wasted. I have to say this is the best booze I've ever had, well, maybe the best I've ever had today. Whatever, I'm loving it! I'm looking forward to bottling old #2, and I've just found 2 litres of Vodka, which I might tip in, just for fun? We'll see........... ;D

Yep, I only use natural spring water in my "Terry's Ginger Toe". It may taste remarkably like Melbourne suburban tap water, but rest assured, it's really natural spring water, gathered by beautiful Aryan blonde haired, blue eyed maidens, one litre at a time, from a secret natural spring miles away from captivity. It's delightful......... ;D

One of my favourite drinks has always been snakebite, which is half lager, half cider with a dash of blackcurrant so......

My next plan is to do away with water altogether ( fish frollick in it you know), and make a batch of snakebite using a can of lager concentrate and apple/blackcurrant juice, one sachet each of appropriate yeast for lager and cider, shedloads of maltose
This should produce something approximating the flavour I'm after AND about 10% alc/vol

So, we'll have no more talk about this pointless watery substance, I've shown the way forward my children, go out and follow my lead

In America you often see the chemical from Roundup and Spectracide in rainwater...yeah, we are killing ourselves.
It destroys good bacteria in your gut and that affects many things in how you feel and your overall health.

Well I'm riding the horns of a dilemma today. I'm doing another clean on batch #2, and when my son was cleaning out his bedroom yesterday, he found a bottle of stolichnaya vodka. Neither of us like vodka very much, but I'm wondering about dumping it into my ginger beer fermenter? I have another litre of Russian potato juice in my booze cupboard that my cuz gave me, and maybe a litre or two of Chivas Regal scotch whisky that I don't need immediately, so I've wondered whether a. it'll mix ok with my ginger beer, b. it'll enhance the flavor, and c. whether it'll increase the alcohol content?

I think it will do all three, what do you guys think? ;D

Excellent! And seriously, don't compare that "kit" ginger beer to the real thing Spotty, I don't know that there's any real ginger in a ginger beer kit, but if I went on flavour alone, I'd suggest there's not. ;D

it did occur to me to do the math on the alc/vol

a standard bottle of spirits contains about 20 standard drinks and you're using 3 in about 20 litres of ginger beer so it would work out about 3 standard drinks extra per litre, so one and a half per bottle, so maybe about 3/4% alc/vol per bottle extra on top of your brewed content ?

Yeah I didn't do the math but decided against it anyway. I can always add a shot of booze to my ginger toe if I need to, but on both Saturday and Sunday I drank 2 bottles of GT, and it pretty much sat me on my arse, so I'm guessing that it's got plenty of alcohol therein, without adding expensive booze for very small return. ;D

The longer this stuff matures, the better it tastes. I can't get over how good this first batch is, I was only thinking what a pain in the arse it would have been if it tasted like #$%* and I had to tip out 50 bottles! I'm gonna let old No 2 ferment for another few days, and I'll bottle it next week while I'm convalescing after some more surgery tomorrow. I'm hoping my surgeon doesn't ban me from partaking in the medicinal properties of my delicious brew, that would be a cruel and unusual punishment! ;D

Isn’t a Moscow Mule made with spicy ginger beer, Vodka and Lime juice?

I believe so David, and what surprises me the most is that I've never had a Moscow Mule, I'll have to find a recipe! ;D

Yes indeed Rafster used to be a great fan of the Moscow Mule. I found through extensive research over decades that if you substitute rot gut Tequila it smooths the tequila out and removes warts on the dongus, acne, pain and strengthens the blood. Now I never got to the point of using expensive tequila I found the cheaper was better stuff, stuff that would clean up oil stains from 100 wieght non detergent oil as used in Wright 3350 32w's was optimum.

Yes Dave, I only use rainwater. It's all that is available where I live. It is wonderfully clean too. Wouldn't use it if I lived in a big city though.

Good idea Moe, I tried some Hobart water to wash down my drugs a couple of weeks ago and couldn't believe how bad it was, it was hard to tell which was the worst, Adelaide, Darwin or Hobarts water is foul.

I don't know why, but the tap water at my place has always been good, I thought about buying filtered water a while ago, but decided that it wasn't any better than what was coming out of my kitchen tap.

Speaking of water, I may be in some hot water, due to my post surgery delirium, it seems that I've somehow bought a 1974 Harley Sportster. Bloody post surgery delirium, if it wasn't for this totally plausible (and manifestly excusable) medical malady, I wouldn't have done something so irresponsible and possibly dangerous to my future health..... ;D
