79 CB650 rectifier
« on: September 07, 2019, 05:12:31 AM »
Hi does anyone know how to test rectifier?
Here is my problem .
While engine running if I pull spark plug wires from cylinder 2 or 3 only that cylinder dies. If I pull out spark plug from cylinder 1 or 4 the engine dies.
So far I have done coil resistance test . Both coils are in spec of 72kohms
I have done the spark gap test I have huge 6mm spark from each spark plug wire.
What could be the issue?
Thank you

I would try swapping spark plugs around first to rule out a bad plug. From your description, it sounds like you've ruled out most of the other ignition system. Typically, if the engine dies when pulling one plug wire, another cylinder (or two) isn't firing properly. The engine RPM'S should noticeably drop, then return when the wire is reattached. If little or no change, that's the cylinder to concentrate on. You can also check the header pipes and see if each seems to heat up the same. You can use a spray bottle, your finger (ouch!) or a non- contact thermometer (works best). I'm guessing your issue is fuel or compression related...
