CB650 Static Timing Mark Which one?
« on: September 14, 2019, 12:45:34 PM »
I want to double check my static timing since Im having issues. The Clymer book points the mark second mark on the left (red arrow) but I read on the 650 forum that it is the right notch above the "S" for timing. I've heard the book has been wrong before and theres plenty of typos in it but want ed to make sure. I currently have the 1-4 lined up to the second notch on the right (green arrow).

Anywhere in between those two notches. Just like the advance marks they have a range and not a single line like the 550 and 750. Those two lines are really only about .5° apart from each other so it really doesn’t matter.

That being said, check your timing dynamically with a strobe at full advance and set your timing to those marks. If the idle setting is a bit off that’s fine. The advance is way more important than idle and the bike has a fairly wide range where it will idle ok.

Edit: After thinking about it some more, those hash marks are probably like 1.5° apart from each other.

On the CB500/550s they are 3° apart.
