Tuning My cb750K0
« on: September 04, 2019, 04:14:58 PM »
Working on final prep for my 1970K0. Headed for the Cobble Beach Concourse, where this year they have a class for Japanese Motorcycles Only! The bike was running OK, but not the way I wanted. Started by setting the points gap, using a Dwell Meter. I read about it here, but this was a first. Really worked well and got both sets of points set just right. Set the timing (with a timing light) and got idle and total advance spot on (for both sets of plugs).

Next I carefully followed the carb sync procedure in my 5/70 dated service manual. WHAT A PAIN! Thank god Honda changed quickly to the carbs operated by the single bridge system! My K1 takes 10 minutes to do. Followed every step and after going around the instructions three or four times, got them spot on. What a difference! Bike runs sweetly and really sounds wicked on the brand new, 40+ year old HM300 pipes. Probably never going to License and insure this one, but sure is nice to know it runs as good as it looks........

Good luck at the show! It’s amazing how good they run when carefully set up! It’ almost like tuning two engines to run together, plus four carbs to synchronize!

Good notes on tuning. i recall someone on here with a K0 or maybe a K1 made a video of their bike running post-carb sync and they managed to balance a quarter on the engine, below the airbox while it idled -now that was a well balanced bike! Good luck with yours!

cheers
Andy

VERY EXCITING
We'll all need lots of photos and reports of the show, regardless of how it comes out, what an honor to have a K0 in that lineup!
Can't wait for more posts!!

I have found that once I got my 69 and 70 four cable carbs dialed in they seem to last forever. Checking them proved they needed no further attention. However, it was a hassle in the beginning and I swore never to get another 4 cable system. But then the Patina Bike came along :)
