Running funny
« on: June 08, 2005, 08:45:46 PM »
Hey All,
I was missing a little and idle was acting up. I tore into the point's thinking it might be them. I tapped my @ 4 wire and seemed to move more than I would like. I could turn the plug out with my hand. # 3 is loose also.  This is a special size I don't have and really want to ride to work tomorrow. What size is the plug socket size on my bike. I did a search and found in the Faq. I think I figured out the gap is .040 on my 550, is that right? That converts to about 1.1mm.

The spark plugs are 18mm.  Spark gap is .6-.7mm or .02 to .03 in.  I set mine to .025 with the stock ignition.

Standard and even spark plug intended sockets are troublesome with this engine as surrounding clearance is very close.  The socket tool that comes in the original tool kit works best.  Try to pick up one of these or one very similar at a motorcycle shop.  These are about 5/8 inch diameter tubes flared and hexed shaped at the plug end to just grab the plug base.

Have a look at eBay item (4554188946) The seller has a selection of Honda tools including 2/3 plug spanners. Note that his auction is for individual items in his advert.

Thank's I'll check it out.
3 of the 4 plugs where not tight. Look's like there pretty well worn. I'll be picking up 4 more tomorrow. I love riding this bike. I have already put 850 miles on it in the last week.
