Need assistance on carb jetting clarification
« on: September 11, 2019, 05:18:39 am »
Alright so I own a 1978 cb550k. I cracked open the carbs yesterday to jet my mains up from 90 to 105, but to my surprise all the Jets read AB 122.5. So my question is, are these jetted already? Was this stock set p? Am I going about this the wrong way? Granted I've never done this before.

Also I noticed something on the main jet in carb 3, it seems as if the cab body was chipped away

I also noticed one of the previous owners used rvt on one of the bowls. Is this safe?

I can't read the jets.... too blurry... but if you're seeing 122.5, they've probably been changed.
What's your intake/exhaust combo? Any other engine changes?

On the chipped jet holder, do the threads still fit?

4into1.com has shaped bowl baskets for those carbs.

When I purchased the bike it was in pieces and the PO sold these carbs with it. It had a 4to1 on there that was pretty rusted and  beat up. I just ordered a new 4to1 exhaust and I'm running  pods. Other than that I haven't changed much in terms of performance. I had intended to jet them at 105.

122.5 seems large, but it's a guessing/tuning game with pods anyway.

If...... *IF*.....the P.O. had it running OK with pods, maybe it needs 122.5's. Only one way to find out.

 Do you know:
 -what size pilot jets?
 - mixture screw settings?
 - needle clip position?
