Was out on my bike today. Notice in the first few seconds there is "surging." What the heck is that?

Thank you. I was told:

"Solution is to shift down a gear so the rpm is higher.

this is the worse thing for the crank. Roller crank it would twist and be out of phase between cylinders or banks; depending on who is the weakest link if not timed it in by accident. Solid crank is this twist of a solid rotating mass so it cracks at some place that is weak.

Lots of mental multitasking. You have to catch yourself listening for that and shift or throttle out of it. The traffic, the darting out of a parking spot, the left hander, all that kind of being one with the surroundings if not the bike's noise/feel."

This is what an old timer told me. I think I had the RPMS too low on the bike to begin with. I keep it at 1k RPMS. Might do 1.5 from now on.

So you started off in second gear?

I was coming down the block much faster, slowed down, and didnt shift from second gear to first, slowed down to about 2k RPMS and thats when it happened.

I agree with the guys that are saying you are lugging it.  Try to keep the Rs above 3000. I typically cruised at 4000 but it's OK to let it down to 3000 if not too much load.  If you run them too much at the lower RPMs, you have problems with the charging system.  I'm an old Honda mech from years ago.   Nice bike BTW.

We are getting a very similar surge but it's not lugging because of the wrong gear. Been gapping and re-gapping the points with no success.
