Engine Hang Up - Carburetor Adjustment???
« on: September 15, 2019, 04:37:16 PM »
I have a café 1973 Honda CB500 that had its carburetor calibrated for sea level. When I pull the throttle the engine hangs at about 4000 rpms once I let go of the throttle. I'm currently at 1500ft above sea level and am wondering what needs to be done to adjust the carburetors to create the appropriate air/fuel mixture. I've leaned the mixture by lowering the jet needle, and have played with the air screws but the problem persists. Did I go the wrong direction and need to enrich the mixture instead? Also one of my float bowls is leaking at the gasket, do I need to adjust my floats for my altitude? The YouTube link is a video of the issue. Running with air pods.

Sticky advance mechanism, loose / weak advance springs.

Sticky advance mechanism, loose / weak advance springs.

Trimming the advance spring cured this on one of my bikes and greatly reduced it on another. I plan on trimming one coil off the other spring on that bike.

But....yeah.... pods.  That's not helping matters.
