Brakes suggestions
« on: September 16, 2019, 10:18:49 AM »
I am debating how to go about fixing my front brakes. Looks like I have the original brake system. The pads are worn and cracking and every part of it is leaking. I took it all apart and put it together well enough to run the bike for a while and then let it sit for a year. The nasty crystalized brake fluid is on the master cylinder and all over the calipers.

My question is... does anyone have a place they get the full rebuild kit (caliper and master cylinder) for a good deal or should I just get a new caliper and rebuild the master cylinder (I don't want to get a new master cylinder because I like the look of this one)?

What front brakes are you all using/recommend? Have another one that would bolt on easily to upgrade? Or is this a super dumb question because this brake setup has a common size and I could just pick something up? I have no idea. So far I've spent all of my time learning about the carburetors.

I am putting this in the A forum because I have a 1977 Hondamatic and was seeing something about the 77 and 78 have a different master cylinder setup than the 76.

Thanks!!
