2019. Cobble Beach Concourse d’Elegance/ SOHC CB750 Wins It!
« on: September 16, 2019, 05:38:18 PM »
Wow...... Serious vintage/historic car event! Over 150 amazing machines, from all over the US and Canada. Best in Show was a Mercedes SSK from Georgia. Classes ranged from 110 year old “brass rad”” cars to 50’s and 60’s Rods and Customs. GM had three early Concept Cars, all built before the first Corvair, using their 6 cylinder, air cooled engine. Porsche sponsored this year (and committed to 2020), they had old cars, race cars, and new cars everywhere! This year’s motorcycle class was well represented (by invitation only) and included Hondas, Yamaha, Suzuki and a really nice Kawasaki Z1.

Too bad for them my CB750 was there! Took the top prize. What a fantastic weekend, meals, entertainment, and a huge turnout, despite lousy weather in the early hours. I will go back, this event is rapidly coming on par with Pebble Beach and Amelia Island, and they continue to have a motorcycle class, every year. See the last picture, wearing my 50 year old riding jacket and boots, on the Winner’s podium. Every one else was in very formal or period attire. I was the most comfortable!

Decent!!, as I believe they say in Canada. (at least the Trailerpark Boys do). Seriously, an awesome achievement. Is the first such win for a CB 750?

Thanks for all the interest! Forgot to mention this year’s class was for “Japanese Motorcycles” (last year German, next year Italian). Small field, but all very different and beautifully restored machines.
One of my favourites was a cb160, originally restored by a friend, Sam Longo.

Congratulations
Nice achievement
As for formal attire, here on Maui we have our work slippahs and our dress slippahs.
We also have work tank tops and dress tank tops, which tend to have fewer stains on them.
Also, we never tuck them in. Only tourists tuck shirts in and wear socks with sandals.

Spanner 1....... sharp eyes, you are correct Never met him before he came as one of the two motorcycle Judges. Incredibly knowledgeable and a delight to chat with. Listened carefully and he suggested a few ways I can make my ride better (scores are not shared out with entrants). What a gentlemen, really enjoyed meeting him. When you see him next, pass on my best regards! John D.
