Honda Headlight Socket
« on: September 16, 2019, 07:56:19 pm »
I hope I'm not asking something obvious, or well hashed out already.  Is there a method to removing the metal contacts from the headlight socket?  The one pictured is from the wiring harness of a 1971 CB500, but it may be the same one found on many other, if not all, early 70's Hondas.  Thanks in advance.

I know the white and the blue need to be swapped.

There's an obvious ramp for a tang to compress, beside each wire. Stuck something thin, about the width of the slot,  (a piece cut from a beer can should work) in from the opposite end, on the side with the ramp (towards the middle). That should force the tang in allowing the wire and terminal to be pulled out. You may need to bend the tang out a bit with a pointy tool or tiny screwdriver before reassembling so it catches securely.

So the wire and terminal pull out of the rear of the socket?   Had to try this so went down to the garage just now, and it worked.  Simple once you know how,   thank you very much!

Why do you need to swop them?

The blue wire should connect to the high beam, and the white to drive or low beam.  And green goes to ground.

Yes and if its original that is the way it will be wired
