Front Brakes

I just picked up a 1978 CB 550 K and I want to overhaul the front brakes. Does anyone know if a master cylinder and caliper rebuild kits are available?

Welcome,

Yes they should be available; I'd check ebay for starters.  Actually, go to the Home page on this site and click on parts and it will have different honda cb models to choose from  (ie: cb 500, cb550, cb750, etc.)  Click on it and it will pop up the first and then scroll to the bottem of the page and it will ask if you want to see the rest of the auction items for that model of bike.  Pretty cool.

Check with your Honda parts department first. I've found several times that my dealer has had either original Honda parts or good quality jobber parts at less than e-bay prices. Just recently for brake rebuild kits. That being said, e-bay is a good source for this stuff too.
Cheers,
Cliff.

Cliff is right, check with you local Honda dealer first.  You will be amazed at how many of the old parts they can still get in, and I have found that about half of the parts I have needed were cheaper from the dealer than on eBay (don't forget to figure shipping into the equation.)  You don't have to worry about whether they are OEM parts or aftermarket either (for those doing concours restorations!) ;D  I just bought some rubber parts (gastank gasket - $5.15, shift rubber - $0.98, pillion rubber - $5.26, Kickstart rubber - $3.23, main peg rubber - $7.98)  from my Honda dealer after checking them on eBay.  Most of these were cheaper than even the aftermarket stuff on eBay.

Oldfordguy is right. The rebuild kits area very common and quite reasonable - even OEM. I've also had good success with the ones that JC Whitney offers for the SOHC's.
