Favorite sunglasses? for riding or otherwise.
« on: September 18, 2019, 06:26:28 pm »
I'm a fan of close fitting safety glasses on the bike but I'm yearning for a set of Persol shades or other upscale sunglasses. Really, I want the PO0714's like Steve McQueen wore, maybe a little coolness would rub off. What are some favorites of yours?
I searched and now am seeing them on every website I go to. Not as annoying as some things that pop up.

rayban wayfarers for all occassions ( mine are prescription so not much choice anyway, if i don't wear them i don't see, and i have clear ones for night time)

many years ago ( pre prescription ) Winchester shooting glasses were the shades of choice, black for day, yellow for night, very close fitting wraprounds and reasonable stone strike resistant

The other good thing about Wayfarers is they come in sizes to suit different sized heads, me having a big old boofhead I get to wear 58's but the missus, being much closer to a normal human has 54's
I also have a pair of Oakley plastic framed circular lens glasses which are way too scratched to wear even if I didn't have to wear script lenses but one day I want to get new script lenses for them . They're probably too small for my head but they were the last present my dad gave me before he got sick and went to that old rockers reunion in the sky
i blame Terry

When I was 18 My buddies and I would travel 50 miles to an army surplus store. I bought lots of stuff including shooters glasses there and loved them, until I dropped a pair and the lens shattered. Seemed like a bad idea to get more of those.
I had some scrap selling money in my pocket at the NHRA event a Joliet once. I decided to get a nice set of Oakleys but then our tire gauge broke and the only one at the track for sale that day was exactly the same price as the Oakleys. I do however, still have the tire gauge.

I have a pair of Oakley gascans - prescription because if not I can't see (or hear, or think) - for riding. I also have a pair of Raen's which I really like. They remind me of a model RayBan had in the 80's. Kinda like Marshall Crenshaw glasses.

Wore Wayfarers forever but eventually just stopped. no reason.

+1 and ALWAYS Rayban Wayfarers! Dark green lenses. Tried others, always come back.
My son gave me a bunch of tinted safety glasses (wrap around) they even have a sticky rubber covering on the ends, above your ears. On the rare occasion I wear an open helmet, they are really perfect!

I saw an ad for William Painter Sunglasses, the reason you should get some is William Painter invented bottle caps and the capping machine. Makes perfect sense to me. Oh, they have Ti frames with a bottle opener in the earpieces. That's the tie in.
