Stator Coil Wire Broken
« on: September 18, 2019, 11:06:03 PM »
Hi folks. I have a 1978 CB550K. currently both sides of the engine and the top end are taken apart. I'm slowly working on buttoning her back together. While poking around this evening I found that one of the wires on the Stator Coil is busted. I've included a couple pics. I'm under the impression that this is a fixable problem with a little solder and some shrink wrap but I wanted to confirm that first.

The wire might, probably is, enameled as most magnet wire is...so, that requires you to remove the enamel coating.  Retrieve an aspirin from your medicine cabinet, crush it and then insert the wire into the little pile of powdered aspirin.  Take a torch and melt the aspirin and it will remove the coating. Do NOT breathe the smoke from the aspirin.

Clean the wire end off with some acetone and then with some fine copper wire you an wrap the braided/stranded wire to the stator wire and resolder it.

Got the wires all soldered up nice and good. Now, time to start a rebuild thread and put this damn engine together  :o
