Aftermarket speedometer/tach reccomendations for cb750
« on: September 26, 2019, 10:52:14 am »
So I am looking for an aftermarket speedo/tach unit for my café build. Anyone have any recommendations for a quality all-in-1 speedo/tach unit preferable with indicators?

My 1978 cb750f uses the old school instrument cables, not sure the technical name.  Havnt found many aftermarket instruments that accommodate the old school instrument cables.

Thanks, friends!

I have cable drive, tack and Speedo, from drag speciality .  Their about 2in dia, chrome, and 15 years ago, just a little over 100$ , for the pair. Theirs options on Speedo ratio, so be sure before u order. Also options on lighting, mine don't match. (Not on my cb, but on my 81 gs750).

You can also plug / remove the cables and go all electronic. You don't have to stay mechanical.

Is that just plug and play or is there wiring involved?

There is always wiring involved. It uses a speed sensor on the wheel and a wire from one of the coils. You have to wire in the indicator lights.

Sorry for the confusion. I was talking about switching from a mechanical speedometer/tach to an electronic one. A lot of the aftermarket gauges I have seen don't have a plug insert for the old-school cables.

GPS based electronic speedos do not require magnetic pickups on the front wheel.

Motogadget makes nice instruments if you can afford them.

Absolutely.   Speedhut make a version. It does need an antenna tho.  GPS speedos are about $260-$280.

They have some good stuff. I've used one of their CAN bus tachs to add RPM readout instrument to a CAN bus motorcycle.
