FYI........ My 1978 CB750K had all the same symptoms, for an entire riding season. Drove me nuts. FINALLY, the ignition (key) switch totally failed. Replaced it, and perfect ever since..........

In debugging my electrical issues I finally turned over the original great looking fuse box.  The BACK was a rust pit while the front looked just fine. I just ordered a new block.  Good luck with the gremlin.

I think mine has electrical issues, just do know. Really frustrating.

Then one day, hit the starter button, fired up and ran the greatest ever.

Next day, nothing................geesh.

I'll second what BenelliSEI has said.  If you have not checked the terminals on your key switch I would pull that and check that too.  My 78SS had similar problems with random shut downs and cutting on and off while riding.  Then one day while over 60 miles from home while riding with another member my bike just quit at a gas pump.  No power anywhere.  Took several hours to track the problem, turned out to be a loose terminal on the key switch.  After I got home I pulled the switch back out took the back cover off and found most of the long brass terminals were loose at their rivets.  I cleaned everything up and promptly soldered all the terminals at the rivets, no problem again.  I have found out that is a very common problem in the late model bikes.

I'll second what BenelliSEI has said.  If you have not checked the terminals on your key switch I would pull that and check that too. 

That's on my list of things to do as well and possibly the the kill switch on the handle bar if I can get at its contacts without breaking it.

FYI......I bought a very reasonably priced replica EMGO switch and it works perfectly......

BenelliSei, may want to do a relay mod to that Emgo switch...they are known to be weak when pushing stock current levels through them.  I have avoided Emgo products as a result of their spotty quality.

Thanks for that. I ride the K8 so rarely, it seems to be holding up well! Checked my log notes today and it was 8 years ago!
