1977 Project Hondamatic
« on: September 30, 2019, 12:44:36 PM »
A coworker's dad still has his grandad's 1977 CB750A. It has been sitting inside the garage since the early 80's. I'm intrigued about purchasing it for $500. It only has 1600 miles, clear title and I think, 100% complete. Any thoughts about what I might find relative to these bikes aside form the normal possibilities?

Likely no other issues - as compared to any bike stored for a long time, like improperly (full of fuel, etc.).

I can't think of any issues I had reviving mine that was unique to the "A".

1978 CB750A (upgrading very, very slowly)

Past bikes - Honda: SL350, CX650C, CB900C, CB1000C, CM450A; Kawasaki: several 1972 750 H2's; Suzuki: TC90J.

Bikes I want: CX650ED, a mid-sized japanese V-twin with ABS.

Mine had a tank full of rust ,mice in the air box, a stuck brake calliper, rooted tyres and no kick starter

looks like that one was kept under a car port or something

the other one was in better nick and is a goer,so it,s luck of the draw

both these cost 8K for both, here down in OZ, mate,if you can score one for $500.00 what are ya waitin for ...???

just do it  ;D

Thank ya gents! I was a little sad to see my CB400F depart the garage last week, but it was time to move on. It was a ‘77, so maybe it’s time for another ‘77!

I went and picked up the CB750A this past Saturday. Ended up negotiating a bit on the price and paid him $650. I'm good with it.

After a little tinkering, I have determined that everything in the electrical system is working as it should with the exception of a couple of small details. Flasher relay is bad and the parking switch is corroded inside. I'll start another post about how I'm fixing it in case anyone is interested.
