Mystery brake - k7 750 four
« on: October 02, 2019, 09:28:37 PM »
Can anyone tell me what year or model this brake caliper is from? There's a few things on this bike from a 750A, so I assume that's what this caliper is from but confirmation would be great if possible. It bolts straight on to the forks. That leads me to believe that the forks have been replaced as well? Or is it possible for this caliper to just bolt on to the OEM forks without problem? Thanks ahead of time.

My other question is, is this a problem? I really doubt it is but it only mounts with those two bolts so I'm not positive if I'm missing some sort of mount as it does have a little play in it. It's stopped me thus far though

I'm away from the bike at the moment and was hoping someone could tell by sight or familiarity with the specific caliper I'll have to take some measurements but in the meantime here is a cropped in pic from before I painted the caliper.

Here's the other side including the trees which I'm pretty positive are from an automatic.

That is not a 750K caliper; possibly a 77/78 F2/F3 caliper. The forks may also be F2/F3 if the tubes are 35mm. Not sure what spoked wheel or rotor you have?

the 35 0mm Auto top tree has a sort of ribbed thing that looks like it holds a small guage, might be for ignition.
I think that is a 79 or later forks is it 5 bolt mount on the brake rotor ?

I believe that it is 5 bolt mount, yes.

Man. So the reason I was asking about this is my tach/speedo bracket didn't fit on the stock tree. The holes that it mounts to were too close together by like half an inch. The previous owner had welded something together that allowed the gauge bracket to fit, but that broke and I ordered a replacement bracket. That's when I realized how weird everything was up there.

I assumed I just needed a new fork tree but if these tubes are different diameters, I might be stuck doing what I am unless I want to replace the whole front end, huh?

Those aren't F2/3 forks. I don't see the right side bosses for the other caliper. I pretty sure they are from a '79 or '80 DOHC 750K, which had a single front disk and used the rear mounted caliper.

That would make sense because looking up photos, a 1980 brake kit looks like it has all of the right seals and dust boots and whatnot for my caliper. So I guess that's what it is. Would a triple tree from a 77 work on these 198X fork tubes? I'd love to not have to use the brackets I made to hold my gauges on properly lol. But if the tubes are a different diameter I might be stuck. Here's a pic from the other angle if this tells you anything. I'm in the middle of repainting the tank.

The DOHC 750 still used 35MM fork tube I believe, so a stock triple should work.

That'd be amazing if that's the case. I've been worried about it.
