Topic: Mounting a Tomtom

I decided to buy a Tomtom Rider 550 for my daughter.  She rides a Honda VTR250.  The unit arrived, and I looked at the supplied mounting hardware.  Hmmm, a main post, a U-bolt, and some nylock nuts.  All quite crude, and frankly, quite ugly.  I looked at the main post, looked at the VTR250, and then inspiration hit.  I realised the holes on the main post aligned with the mounting holes on the clutch lever assembly.  Two 35mm M6 caphead screws later...







Thought this may be useful for other people wanting to fit one of these excellent units.  Oh, and black caphead screws have been ordered...

that seems to be sticking out very high up. would you not want it more aligned with the existing gauges and the handlebars?
i'm using one of these on my 550 and am pretty addicted to it.

I went for a test ride, and I think it's in a pretty good spot.  You don't have to take your eyes off the road too much to read it.  I bought a Ram Mount that uses one of the handlebar securing bolts, but I decided it was too low.  My daughter is autistic, and her anxiety about getting lost really limits her riding.  This should open up a whole new world for her.

yes these things get you hooked pretty easily. you can use them to plan routes meticulously and then ride them without having to consult a map while on the way. but still if you make a decision to deviate because you see something interesting, you can do that as well and it will just lead you back to your original route eventually.

also you can add your home location and with a big button in the menu, tap it at any time, wherever you are, and it will get you on the quickest way home. that gives a lot of peace of mind and i can see how that would help an autistic person.

I never put my actual home in any mapping devise for security. I like to use the police substation about a mile from my house as "home".  When Garmin and Tom Tom were very popular people would steal them then use the info to rob your house. It was a goldmine when they got a garage door opener out of a vehicle at the same time. They could find your house and let themselves in.
