Final drive seal

Final drive seal on cb750K5.

First seal didn’t seat right was sticking out too far. Saw this Hackaweek video and realized I didn’t have to start over and pull the cases back apart. I tried with a new seal without any silicone sealant, but I did use a 2” pipe and cap, like he does in the video. The seal bunched up around the edges, so I ordered a new one.

He mentions using a silicone sealant at the 3’40” mark in the video to help the seal slide in. Any recommendations for high temp silicone sealant I should use for this application? I have threebond 1184, which is silicone, but it sets up pretty quick.

The trick I use to install that seal is to go in with a deburring tool and knock the lip off the edge of the hole.  I use a light coat of grease on the OD of the seal (ID also).
