Linkage gaskets
« on: October 16, 2019, 08:54:53 am »
Doing a rebuild on some real nasty CB500 Four carbs.  A lot PB Blaster soaking has gotten everything down and disassembled. The linkage gaskets however are in pretty bad shape.  I can't seem to see where there are any replacements are available, so I am thinking of using some thin rubber washers on at least one carb as a replacement.  Thoughts or ideas anyone.....

This has been covered recently.  They're not absolutely necessary and serve as dust shields. People have made new ones from a bicycle inner tube or similar.

Thank you Scott, I did a search but must not have put in the right inquiry.  Very much appreciated.  Going to live without the little buggers.......

You can get silicone rubber sheets off the internet.  I think you could make replacements fairly easily and the silicone would last forever.

The rebuild video's I have seen on Youtube appear to put things back up without them, so they are off the menu.  I did find someone had been in the carbs prior to me, three plastic floats and one foam.  It is hard to believe as dirty as the carbs were, but I also realize the bike has not been run since 1994 apparently.  Guess I am lucky the rust was at a minimum.....
