thinking about getting a 1965 Honda CB160
« on: February 03, 2007, 12:50:27 PM »
I found what seems likea good deal on a super clean '65 Honda CB160. I love the look of the bike, and was wondering what all you guys think of the model. The guy is asking $1800 for it, and everything looks new on the bike, and runs perfect.

Solo,

I think you just answered my other post.  Do you have any pictures you can post?

I don't have any pics of it, but I plan on doing a mild cafe racer/bobber look.

I personally would also like to have a CB160 but I been told that they are prone to transmission problems similar to the 305 scrambler(CL77) models. I believe it is a problem with the sycroniser but don't hold me to it. I say if it's clean and you like it, buy it.

I borrowed one of these for a week back "in the day"...It was fun...   :)

Just don't expect to pass anyone on the freeway...   ;D

It's small & light; it'd make a great bike for the back of an RV...

It looks like a nice bike.  If it runs as good as it looks I say go for it.

A CB160 in black was my first bike bought new in 1965 when I was 16.  I put 10,000 trouble free miles on it in a year and then sold it and got my first Triumph, a 1959 650.  That bike was not so trouble free...

My first bike, too--red one.
Bought it out of the front window of a hardware store in Stamford, Connecticut--Summer '65.
Cost $580 if I remember.
Great bike --looks good--never any problems.
Later on I got some other bikes so I could have problems.

i'd never mod a bike that old and clean. find a beater if you want to cafe or bobber it, IMO.

by the way---maybe this should be in the "other bikes" forum?

As this keeps bumping to the top of the list, I was wondering the same thing.

The CB160 does have a good reputation. I always thought that they looked like a smaller version of the Cb77 305 Super Hawk. I agree with Paul, I'd leave that sucker stock, keep it up and ride. ;)

A CB160 was my first bike, went through everything with that bike.  Had agressive tires (small town kid on gravel roads) I rode that bike and it never croaked, had light carb issues but otherwise wish I had it back today.  I would leave it dead stock.

Oh yeah, Staphcar.  Saw that listing today in Craigslist, if I had money to throw away that bike would make a nice play toy.
