Anyone tell me the value of my 79 CB 750k
« on: September 14, 2019, 12:46:08 PM »
I don't know how to upload pics, so I will have to go by description.  I have a 1979 CB 750k.  Here is the list of items and changes I have made.  New clutch, cheap header 2 years old, new rear break shoes, new wiring harness from an 81 CB 750, new master cylinder for front brakes, carbs disassembled and sonically cleaned with new air diaphragms and pump diaphragm installed.  Needle and jets were good, new throttle cables, choke and clutch cables, plugs, oil and filter changed with less than 20 miles on them, new rear turn signals, light and turn signal switch replaced along with flasher relay, new battery this summer, rims and trany are in great shape.  The tires are dry rotted and need replaced, seat is ok, but has a couple of small holes, rear fender is missing, would replace rear tail llight assembly...it is cracked, tach is broken and plexiglass cracked, mirrors are not original and do not match.  Even after rebuilding the carbs, I must not have gotten them clean.  The engine will start and idle, but it seems to starve for fuel in mid and high range.  Paint on tank is ok but mostly faded, side panels were poorly painted.  I bought the bike two years ago and have not driven it more than 30 miles.  I was going to do a restomod, so I took everything off of it with my son.  I ended up in South Sudan training their military and my son moved away.  I just now put everything back on. I have had multiple surgeries and a brain injury since being in South Sudan and I am getting ready to return to train another group of soldiers.  I just want to sell the bike and move on at this point.  I can't do the work without my son, and my friend who builds bikes has helped me with the carbs and put things back together. Can anyone give me a price range I should ask for?  I have more invested in it than it is worth $2k at least.

Welcome. You have to have 5 posts to post a pic so keep posting. Tell us a bit of history on the bike like miles, is there a title, etc? Sort of hard to get a price without the pics. The more original parts on the bike the better. The early 69-75 750's do tend to fetch more cash. I would place an ad in this forum in the "for sale" section and ask for offers. We usually like to have a price listed on that site, but since you just want to move it maybe you can get some offers. Copy and paste your first post here in that sale section.

Unfortunately 1/3 finished projects are worth far less than the money that has been spent on them. Without pictures what you are describing is a $500 bike no matter how much you have spent.

It's unfortunate that I have to dump this bike.  I do have a title.  Can't remember the miles.  I have a V45 Magna I am going to work on.  My sport bike isn't much fun after 1.5 hours.  My hands start falling asleep.  I have built two Yamaha's that were in far worse shape than this Honda...in theory.  One was left outside for 8 years. I will keep you updated.

I decided to go back into my carbs.  I bought a rebuild kit.  It was obviously for a free 79 SOHC carb set.  I just reused most of my dipped parts and put the carbs back together.  I can't figure out from my Clymer manual pics how to connect the left two and right two carbs together.  My issue is the choke assembly and spring.  I can't find a good diagram and can't figure out how to attach everything.  Anyone have a detailed diagram?

Agree. The choke is the biggest PITA.

Thanks, that was a pre 79.  They aren't close enough.  But thank you for trying.  I find navigating forums difficult.

Sorry to hear of your injuries  :(

Value also can depend on location, bikes tend to sell for high values on the coasts from what I have seen.

Unfinished projects are hard to recover money from unfortunately.

Yep, sounds like a $500 bike to me

Decided to hold off on selling the bike.  Made some progress today.  I rebuilt the carbs and will be putting everything back together.  I am trying to finish the build.  One thing I am perplexed by is the plastic "T" into a rubber line that comes off from between the two middle carbs.  I do not remember what it was attached to and can't find any literature mentioning it.  Keep in mind this is the 1979 model which has different carbs from the pre 79.   Right now I have it pinched off.  Can someone please tell me where this hose attaches?

Fuel line or float bowl vent? If it’s the vent, don’t pinch it shut, run a hose back under the seat and leave it open.....

Those bikes goes really low here.  Mint stock condition for $1500US or less is often seen. Similar with the CB900.
