Trouble sourcing a grab bar for a 78' CB750A
« on: June 16, 2010, 08:32:54 AM »
Bike bandit calls it a bumper, and best that I can tell the 77' 750A model has the same grab bar, but not the 76'.

Any Ideas on where I might find this part?

Or how to go about fixing the one I have?  The weld has broken where the rear left turn signal mounts to the grab bar.  Do I just need to find a shop that can re-weld and re-chrome the area for me?

I've also been looking for that bumper for my 78 CB750A.  Missed one on ebay a month or so back, haven't seen one before or since.

Certainly metal can be welded and rechromed, but I would expect to spend $$$.

For me, I've opted to use a CB750K bumper, and to use different turn signals mounted elsewhere (I have the pieces, but haven't put them together).

The "A" bar has tabs to mount the turn signals.

The "K" bar does not.

Well, it came off my 73k but I dont see the difference between that and the 78a.  It definitely has the taillight tabs.  You can have it for the price of postage.  Just let me know bro...

Having bought two bumpers that "should have fit but didn't", I recommend three measurements:

The distance between the shock mount hole and the frame support hole;
The distance between the shock mount hole and the frame support hole;
The width between the shock and frame mounts; and
The distance from the shock mount hole to the back of the bumper.

Between those three, you should be able to find one that fits!

P.S.  A backrest (reportedly from a 73K) did not fit . . . the distance from the shock mount to the frame mount was different.

Tip top daddy,

If I get these three measurements for you, could you check it out for me?

Thanks,

Curtis

 The mentioned earlier K has the mounts for signals but is shorter.
