Topic: wishy washy front end?

after riding 20 or so miles to a location, parking for an hour, then driving away i felt something weird.  the front end felt wishy washy.  the best way i can describe it.  sort of like i was riding over uneven pavement or a had a bent front rim.  so i stopped about 100 yards down the road and then pulled away.  again felt it.  stopped a 1/10th mile down the road and pulled over.  put the bike on the center stand.  yanked on the front end, front to back and side to side,  spun the wheel, checked all the nuts and bolts i could with what i have under the seat.  yanked on the rear wheel, front to back and side to side, spun the wheel.  looked at the rear axle nuts and adjustment bolts.  everything seemed ok.  drove another 100 yards to parking lot.  did a bunch of stop and go tests and nothing.  didn't notice it again.  wonder if it was the pavement on the road i was on initially or something else.  proceeded to ride the bike about another 40-45 miles (one stop somewhere in the middle) without issue.  guess it was the road?

It could be the road plus the tire tread pattern. What tire are you running?

Roll bike forward and use handbrake, the fork will collapse softly with ease and rebound?
You have not inflated the tire recently and filled it too much?

I had a tire long time ago with a wave pattern. I do not recall if it sat in wrong roll direction. Maybe Dunlop TT100 (K81).

per - yes i rolled the bike forward and grabbed the front brake fast and hard.  forks functioning well.  tires in the proper direction.  no cupping on the front tire.  fairly new front and rear.  i check my tire pressure every ride.  front at 33-34.  rear at 39-40.  i prefer a bit harder ride.  temp was low 50s F when i got on the bike at home.  20 mile ride then parked for an hour.  temp was high 40s F at the time of occurrence when i left that location. 

not freaking out about it.  i checked it out on the road and then road another 45 miles without incident.  still a bit baffling.

unfortunately nothing fun delta.

looked at all that.  feels/looks solid.  might run through the front end and forks this winter, change out the ferk earl.

may have to.  riding around here this time of year is getting fewer and farther between but even in the dead of winter i'll throw some heavy coveralls on and ride 10 or 15 miles once every other week.  more if it's not super cold.  probably find myself on that stretch of road sooner than later.

before every ride.  aired up before yesterday's ride, pound or two.  pressure still good this morn.

Sometimes it is good practice to go find those places again and ride on them. It teaches you about what the bike MIGHT do if you get in a similar spot someday, so it won't freak you out, unaware?

Sort of like when someone points a pistol at your face...then you have a better idea of what to do next!

airborne said the same.  i was in a bit of a rush to get my last errand complete before sundown and real cold riding temps setting in.  if i was not pressed i may have thought of that.  good thing to try to remember.

Maybe running over a longitudinal paving joint? Roads can play tricks on your mind.

I once became dizzy and started weaving back and forth on a long straight stretch of blacktop at about 70 mph.

After stopping, it was obvious there were truck ruts in the lanes deep enough to almost trip over......not noticeable at speed.
