Topic: Centering an A rim on the a hub Q?

 I always just cut spokes and respoke a rim with little prior measuring because I have a gauge I made to  check from the brake disc to the edge of the rim. I just noticed the A rim is narrower outside width than chrome rims. Without putting the rim back on the forks is there an easy method to determine center? Maybe put the axle back in and check from the fork mount pads?

 I decided to use a caliper to determine the centerline of some steel rims and the aluminum rim, then compare the disc brake outside to the centerline of known factory wheels. I have noticed an 1/8" or so difference between the 1970 bikes and 1972 rims as reported by folks in the know on such matters. I'll also check a Lester mag for disc to center measurement. Fun with dial calipers!

I recall reading in Hondaman's book that some rims are offset from center.

I don't have the book handy, sorry, but I suggest you do a search in the non-A forum sections; or possibly contact Hondaman directly.

 He suggests centering them thanks.  I'm not sure why, but I enjoy building a wheel. Maybe it's the challenge, like putting a puzzle together. I got the rear on the first try even though for some reason I did the outies first.

 I was seriously overthinking centering the rim. I ended up measuring from a straight edge on the outside of the rim to the back side of the spoke flanges.
