CB750K1 Master cylinder and switches paint?
« on: November 20, 2019, 01:57:33 PM »
Hi All,

I`m preparing the parts to get powder coated. I`m not sure what to do to the master cylinder and the aluminum cases for the controls. They have this weird color somewhere in between black and purple, and I can`t really tell what the original color was. I`m looking for something close to the original.  Also, I`m not sure if I should try powder coating on these, bc last time on another bike they ended up being not too nice due to outgassing. Can somebody chime in if done these parts? Thanks!

I use a gloss black rattle can paint from a local auto supply store. It’s made/sold for painting brake calipers. Seems to hold up well and easily reapplied if brake fluid get’s on it. I tried powder coating and it looks too thick. Not sure about the switches. I usually apply “Back to Black” (detailing spray for black bumpers and trim) or replace.

Anodize
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Thanks for all the comments! Probably the best way is anodizing, actually the original coating seems to be anodized indeed, as Mthf*r suggested. Did you get it done by a shop or you DIY-d it?

The anodized looks like #$%* after a while, which is what you're seeing. Paint looks much better.

So, I assume originally they were black.

Yes they were. The downside of paint is that brake fluid can mess it up. If you don't want to go the full Monty with 2 part paint, black bumper paint is easy to use and does a decent job.
