Honda CB500 K Top Tree/Speedo Bracket
« on: November 06, 2019, 06:54:52 AM »
I have a ‘72 Honda CB500 Four and am trying to find the right speedometer/tachometer bracket that will fit on my bike. I am not certain if the top tree on my bike is the original or if someone had swapped it out with a different year. The mounting holes on the top tree are spaced wider than the speedo bracket I have. Any thoughts on what Speedo bracket I need to find?

If I remember correctly, the early CB500's had smaller gauges that the CB550.

The triple top mount on my 550 is approx 5.5", so maybe you do have a 550 triple.

Those commonly broke when the D washer was not installed, maybe yours was replaced?

Steve is correct about the smaller gauges on the '71 and '72 models - see pages 102 to 105 of the parts diagram in the Manuals and Technical Documents section listed on this forum.
There are two different brackets for these smaller gauges dependent upon whether you have the USA or non-USA gauges but both these options are smaller than the later gauges that are shown in your picture. Not sure if the 550's ever had green faces so maybe your gauges are off a CB750? Others can verify that.
Either way, it looks like the top tree has been replaced. Might be easier to find a 550 mounting bracket than a set of smaller gauges, as they are hard to find generally.

you have the top tree from an F model. I made the same mistake. You have two options. 1. purchase the gauge mount from an F model. 2. puchase the top tree from a K model.

If you get the F model bracket it will have the space in the middle for the vertical dash. so you'll want to get a K model upper clamp.
