A bit over the top, but the big chase scene from the Blues Brothers should get honorable mention. I love how all the trash on the dashboard is constantly sliding back and forth while they swerve around stuff!

I also like how Elwood seems to think that if you slam on the brake pedal with BOTH feet, the car will stop sooner...

Bullitt was cool, but it always bugs me to see the same cars in the background in almost every camera angle.

I noticed that too.. I didn't really see it until about the 5th time I watched the movie. They got a lot of mileage out of that little bit of footage.

clint eastwood in dirty harry ? bike chase on triumphs does anyone remember this one?, mick.

Hey, I liked Bullit as much as the next guy and I saw it first While I was stationed in Japan (67-69'). Question: Has anyone ever counted the hubcaps that came off of that Charger? I remember counting at least 5. I saw it more than once. ;D

Right you are.  But I think the greatest motorcycle chase scene was in Top Gun when Tom Cruise chased an F18-D on his Ninja 900 while pumping his fist in the air like a total goob.

Oooops, sorry.  Brain went to Mars for a minute. ;)

Glib I am, but even at the tender age of 17, I felt sorry for him in that scene. ;)

On the serious vein, I think one of the greatest chase scenes, and the greatest motorcycle chase was the opening scene in Mad Max.  Who could be cooler than the Goose?  After taking his bike into a slider that stops against a trailer (caravan), the driver asks Goose, "What happened?"

The Goose, pulling off his shades, says, "Don't ask me, man.  I just got here myself."

I think it alone was worth the price of admission.  My second bike favorite, to agree with red_haint, was McQueen in the Great Escape.  I remember watching it as a kid and thinking that his jumps were the coolest thing ever.  That gives him a shot at best car and motorcyle chase scenes ever.

I know that Steve did a lot of his own riding in "The Great Escape", but did I read
somewhere that the jumps were done by someone else...maybe a stuntperson
friend or famous biker?

The best chase scene in my opinion is in "the rock" where the ferrari is chasing the H1 hummer (I love those things)

Steve did the jumps in "the great escape", in fact he had to do some of the
stunts for the bikes chasing him because no one else could on the set.
He was in fact a very accomplished rider and if you haven't seen "On Any Sunday" it
confirms the above.

What about other modes of transportation?

The helicopter chase scene in Blue Thunder ("Follow my leader") was fun, but not deserving of best.  I think it was a James Bond move in which the driver escaped the chasing helicopter by ducking into a tunnel during a mountain chase.  That was cool.

Does anyone remember Failsafe?  I think it had the most suspensful aircraft chase.  For those (most of you, possibly) who haven't seen it, it was a 60's movie about what happens when a squadron of SAC B52's is accidentally greenlighted to bomb Russia.  A squadron of US interceptors is sent to shoot the bombers down, and it's kind of like Psycho -- you don't see the chase as much as feel it.

Clint Eastwood was chased in his flight out of Russia in Firefox, but the effects were on the weak side.

There's gotta be some good sea chase scenes, but I can't think of any.  In one of his movies, Bogart was chased in the Florida Keys.  It may have been To Have and Have Not.

Okay now, if we're gonna talk about Helicopters, why hasn't anybody mentioned "Air Wolf"?
With Jan-Michael Vincent, Ernest Borgnine and Alex Cord (& a German Sheppard named Tet) ? Had a lot of chase scenes and action in it and it was on weekly as a TV show! Seasons are available on DVD and a possible movie is coming up.

Bullitt.

Trivia from Bullit: Steve McQueen did a lot of his own driving.  Also, the part of the cab driver was played by Robert Duvall.

More Bullitt trivia. The ford engine on the soundtrack during the chase isn't in the Mustang McQueen is driving, it was actually from a GT40 (McQueen's own, I think) and was dubbed in later :)

My personal favourite is the other chase from Ronin, the one with the Audi S8, the Citroen XM, the Peugeot 605SVE and the 450SEL 6.3 8) mainly because at various points I've owned 75% of the stars (no Citroens for me), thus I know how hard it is to get an S8 that far sideways :o  Despite many attempts I never managed :(

French Connection with Hackman at the wheel needs to be in there.--Could be French Connection II--in New York?

The chase was in The French Connection 8) and The French Connection 2 was set in Marseille by the way ;)

The greatest chase scene? I don’t know about the greatest, but it’s the most common one seen here.
And that would be the one that never end and just keep reappearing time and time again.

 Like these.

http://www.sohc4.us/forums/index.php?topic=17746.0

That’s right, EC’s chasing after the buck $ again.

Heres a link to the rules to refresh everyones memory.

http://www.sohc4.us/forums/index.php?topic=15547.0

2) Post in the appropriate forum.  The tech forum is for technical topics.  The classifieds are for for-sale and wanted ads.  The feedback forum is where you can tell us what you like and what you don't like about the forums or the website.  The open forum is where you go to talk about anything else.  Taking the time to post in the right place saves us the time of moving your posts to the correct forum.

7) If you are coming here to advertise your wares, do it in the classifieds only.  If you are a commercial concern and your advertising gets excessive, contact us about buying advertising space or expect that your ads will be removed and you will be asked to cease these activities.

The rules state that there is a proper place to advertise your wares. I’m sure EC has just over looked the rules, and that the management of the board has just over looked the posting being in a section where “advertising your wares” is not allowed. That’s the way it usually happens.

Yes, i believe it was a GPZ900.

No, I don't think Blue Thunder was anywhere near the best, but it was still cool. Never saw Failsafe, but I'm gonna have to check it out. Sea chases? I remember there was a decent one in the last Indiana Jones movie (Last Crusade?) with a couple of old wooden boats chasing each other in a harbor. How about Hunt for Red October? Perhaps the best real-life sea chase was the British Navy chasing the Bismarck in WWII.
