CB750 K1 Sales Brochure for 11/70 build date?
« on: December 01, 2019, 12:17:04 AM »
I would like an age appropriate sales brochure for my US spec 11/70 CB750 K1, but the only ones I can find are coded 7206 (as below) which I thought was a publication date i.e. 72 June, but this after the build date of my K1 and the introduction of the K2.

Grateful for some advice as to whether 7206 is a code or date?

Thanks,
Andrew

Sorry I can't help with the code dates but I enjoyed the stats on the brochure, especially the 75 MPG @37 mph.

Andrew...... if the brochure shows painted (colour matched to the tank and sidecovers) fork ears and headlight bucket, it’s K1. If they are chrome and black, K2.

i don't think that is a date. I found another brochure that had 9009 on it. Pretty sure it's a code.
I have numerous 75 550f brochures that have a print year date on it, not the month, just the year...

K1 production ran from July1970 to November Nov 1971, No K1 brochure was printed in 1972.

The bike in the picture is a K1 for sure. Grab handle, early taillight and painted fork ears. If it was a 72 brochure I'm sure they would show a 72 bike.

the brochure you posted confirms everything that is a K1. The 4 colors listed are correct for a K1.
7206 is not a date. There could be a print date on the back of that brochure.

Biggest give-away as a K1 also is the red colored wings emblem on the side covers. Wonder why the K1 was the only year for red before they switched to orange,Hmm. Wonder if they are considered a reflector /side marker also and orange is a better legal color.

Thanks for all your replies - the bike in my original posting is a K1 (my own US spec K1 is Candy Ruby Red), the confusion for me was whether 7206 printed on the back was a date or a code - if a date it was printed after the end of the K1 production run which ended August/September 1971.

Last night I was advised by an extremely knowledgeable and highly respected UK member the correct brochure for my 11/70 US K1 is this one, which is dated 1970 on the left side of picture #2 - if anyone one has an original copy for sale please PM me, thanks.

Many thanks to '69CB750' for pointing me to a correct reproduction 1970 US spec K1 sales brochure, which is now on order - this will keep me going until I locate an original one.

If anyone is interested, this is my 11/70 survivor K1 which was imported from Wisconsin to the UK in 2009 and is currently undergoing a sympathetic recommission - here it is trial fitted with new paintwork (by Menno Dek in Germany) and a new OE seat, I've yet to fit the headlight brackets and bowel:  https://www.flickr.com/photos/115740825@N05/albums/72157712017404286 - hoping to have it finished for summer 2020.

Cheers, Andrew

Thanks for the nice comments - the photo below is when I bought it last December and hasn't been ridden yet, so the mileage hasn't changed:

Sorry I can't help with the code dates but I enjoyed the stats on the brochure, especially the 75 MPG @37 mph.

-P.

Yeah - I remember that one, too! it was once a page ad in one of the motorcycle mags of the (USA) era. I never could figure out why mine was exactly the opposite, getting 38 MPG at 75 MPH...

That might have been a misprint?
